Trust me guys, but I am totally surprised. For I had never even imagined in the remotest of dreams that Body Beautiful Salman Khan can give such a convincing performance as an actor. The movie ain't bad either at all.
Sallu is a rich man (not a brat at all) married to his melting eyed sweetheart. They are surrounded by a oh-so-Sooraj Barjatya type family. And then the ultimate thing happens. For the picture postcard Swiss Honey-Moon results in the expectancy of a Ghar ka Chirag, a waris. The poojya dada ji (and would be pardada ji) is so happy that he loses no opportunity to kiss both the cheeks of Sallu bhai.
The fate strikes and a freak accident results not only in miscarriage, but a lifetime infertility for the Bahu. Then follows the saga of the wife offering the suggestion of finding a surrogate mother. But who would be this surrogate mother! A beer bar dancer cum prostitute, a wild-n-salty Madhubala who charges money for any and everything.
They resign to the comfy Swiss Alps away from the loving but prying eyes of the family. What follows thereafter is quite interesting and surprisingly unpredictable. And I wouldn't divulge any more details for it is certainly worth a dekko.
I am quite sure, this movie is gonna do well at the box office and shall earn a handful of awards as well.
Salman is a sure shot contender for the best actor. I have never seen him so good. In fact it is hard to believe that he could have been capable of delivering such an intense, subtle and dignified role.
The pick of the lot is Preity Zinta. My Gawd, this whirlpool dimpled beauty is a great actress. She is simply brilliant! There's a direct lift from the books of Julia Robert's Pretty Woman, but Preity has provided the super Pross (with a silver heart) a colour very much of her own. This character is gonna be remembered for a long time.
The only reason why I am giving four stars is the acting of all the lead players (Though we could have easily done without Jonny Lever, who for once is out of place and fails to be comical).
The music by Anu Malik is mass oriented and hummable. The direction by Abbas Mastan successfully meshes together the commercial as well as human element. All in all, it is a convincing movie with several drawbacks of a usual hindi film.
