Mr. Malik’s phenomenal output continues unabated. After Champion this is another one. This time with Abbas Mastan. Credits include Baazigar, Soldier, Baadshah and others. High expectations, you bet.
A delightful title track. Babul Supriyo increasingly sounds like Kumar Sanu. Here he outdoes himself. Sameer is his usual self. A good tune and very lengthy. Udit Narayan infuses freshness into ‘Dekhne Walon Ne’. Malik uses one of his older songs deftly, but the song is Udit’s all the way. The lyrics are by Anaam.
No. 1 Punjabi. Sonu Nigam, Jaspinder Narula. Oye, Hai, Aditappa. Only for the North, this one. A new age song. Full of effects; instrumental, vocal or otherwise. Anaida sings ‘Aiyo Aiya’ in ‘Diwani Diwani’ and who else to keep company? Mr. Malik himself, that’s who. The straining vocals do not imply sexuality, but seems a reflection of the listener’s pain. Anuji, stop embarrassing your own person and us.
Sonu Nigam for once does not go overboard with his exemplary vocal skills and keeps ‘Diwana Hai Ye Man’ straight and simple. Alka and Sonu compliment each other perfectly although the song has nothing special other than its simplicity.
Alka Yagnik’s attempt to sound illiterate and in love fails in ‘Love You Love You Bolo’. Anu Malik ruins it further by his own entry. Jaspinder Narula’s ‘Mehandi Mehandi’ is the best number in the album. Sung with feeling and able to evoke its subject, Malik is in form like ‘Mast Mahoul’. One of Jaspinder’s best.
Cheating!! ‘Dulhan Ghar Aayi’ has an old world charm to it and what is Jaspinder’s name doing in the credits when she does not sing anything. Have you used her in the chorus or what? Shortchanged, we have been done into by Malik.
What is happening? This is run of the mill stuff and considering it is Abbas Mastan’s, a huge disappointment. ‘Dekhne Walon Ne’ is the only commendable number. Chori Chori might be hummed, but Jaspinder’s Mehendi number is the best. Loses steam before it catches fire. This one does.
