Buying Front Loader-reconsider

Hi I am Anand from Trivandrum,Kerala. This is a product review on my Fully automatic Brand New Siemens Front loader Washing Machine (Imported). Capacity is 5.5kg. And it cost me Rs21000/-. My mom bought it when we shifted into our new home.

I bought it from QRS (Quilon Radio Service) a very popular dealer of electronics and home appliances all over Kerala.

This review is based totally on the experiences and hints from my Mom who is the one using the washing machine. As all moms are she is a professional when it comes to laundry, home appliances and kitchen stuffs. The washing machine seems alright to me but my mom finds it kind of useless.

I made my mom buy it from the leader heeding to his impressive customer communication skills and demonstration. He told me that the washing machine was completely of German make but when the washing machine was delivered I found on the cover- made in Dubai and imported by a bombay agency.I was kind of disappointed with that. He also told me that the front loader is far better than the top loader. I am not sure of that claim either. There is a price difference of Rs4000 between the two. Front loader being costlier.

Now the bad side of the front loader:

  1. The first and most important bad side is applicable for all front loading washing machines.

Here in kerala we people tend to sweat a lot due to the humidity. So after each day our inner wears are drenched in sweat. The washing machine is not very satisfactory in cleaning the inner wears like banyans etc. There are sweat marks around the arm pit portion of the banyan after I started using the washing machine. May be all washing machine produces the same effect. But the major problem with the front loading is that after you put in your cloths and start a wash cycle one cannot at any intermediate point manually clean the cloths with a brush etc. You have to totally depend on your washing machine. This is because the water level would rise above the door so you cannot open it when there is water inside. My mom says if we had bought a top loader then after the rinse cycle we could manually brush the banyans etc at the portions where there are lot of dirt or marks so we could get a combined effect of both the washing machine and manual cleansing. After giving a thought about it even I agree with my mom.

I guess the incomplete cleansing is because the washing machines in India has a low power motor designed to consume lesser electric power. The front loader washing machine in my point of view is designed for either busy or lazy people who doesnt want to clean their cloths manually.

  1. This problem I noticed is for all new washing machine models. The water inlet hose is attached to the pipe and a spring is used to hold it in place. This spring method is a real bad idea. You wont know when it will come loose and when it does so and your pipe is open all of your floor is going to get wet and you wont even know it. This happened to me once. We usually left the pipe always open before the incident. One fine morning I woke up and got out of my bed to find my self standing in 1 inch deep water. The pipe had been leaking all night and the full house was flooded. It took me about 4long hrs to clean up all the mess.so be real careful about that spring.

Well thats about it. So take care when buying a front loader washing machine.
