Hackers

It just works. That's the bottom line behind the success of the hackers. Simplicity and ease of use, coupled with flawless integration of software and programming are precisely the reasons why hackers are achieving a high degree of supremacy.

They live in a different land, not being no mans land.but completely different from an average netiquette. All pc users can't be expected to invest hours of their time into exploring and working around these glitches. Most of them simply throw their hands up in the air and exclaim, 'Bah, this is not worth the effort!'

This is where a real hacker comes in. so who is a hacker anyway?

Most people think Hackers are computer vandals. But, call a real hacker a criminal and trust me, he would do more than lose his temper. Anyways Hackers are not computer criminals. Why do most people think hackers as criminals? The media is responsible for this erroneous assumption. Almost all people take in and build their opinions on what they are fed by media.

Real hackers like to call people who break into systems called'crackers', In fact, people who code and release virus are not neccesarily hackers, they are virii coders. Traditionally hackers are computer geeks who know almost anything about computers(both hardware and software)and were widely respected for their array of knowledge. But for over years the reputation of the hackers have been readily going down. Today they are feared by most people and looked upon as icons representing the underground community of our population.

Hackers know everything about the way a software or an application works. They have this uncanny ability of finding out ways of doing the impossible. They debug code and use trial and error methods to discover unknown and new tricks and secrets. They do try to break into systems(rarely) but have the decency not to cause any damage or steal passwords, etc.but instead they report the h0le and vulnerability to the system administrator.

They try to break free from restrictions and discover new hidden features. You see, hacking is about knowledge. Hackers are those intellectual people who have the extra bit of information. They know of things normal people could only dream of. The top signs that give away the fact that the person is not a real hacker are

  1. He uses weird handles(names) like Avenger, Dark cloud, Skull, Kewl Dude, etc. However these signs are not necessarily fool proof

  2. He boasts about much he knows, a sure sign of person who lacks real knowledge.

  3. He flames newbies or people who ask questions, instead of helping them learn.

Hackers are usually nice people from whom you could actually learn a lot.

Real hackers are usually helpful all the times and really intelligent and knowledgeable.my favorite quote. However after telling all this junk I must admit that there is a very thin line between hackers(nice people) and crackers(not so nice) and not so many people can resist the temptation of crossing it. Its like a detective addicted with drugs after he starts sniffing at it more than once. well everything is upto their ego and respect.

The reason as to why so-called hackers want to cross the line and become crackers is that they can get quick popularity and that it is much lucrative. But what people fail to understand is that this popularity is negative, it is not respect and hatred. Trust me, its no big deal to break into systems and cause havoc. Doing such stupid stuff, might make you popular in the hacking underground world, but this respect is short-lived. Today the number of hackers has increased so much that people very much quickly tend to forgot what you did.

A cracker gains popularity only amongst a small part of the population that is the underground world. An ethical hacker, however gains popularity amongst a larger section of society. And trust me, a hacker who is popular among the normal people is also envied and respected by crackers In addition a cracker is unpopular, unwanted by system administrators and the police. Tell a system administrator about a vulnerability in one of his systems, he would surely start respecting you. And besides thanking you, he might even give you the permission to break into his systems. Wow!Isnt that what all hackers dream of?

Besides, cyber crime has become punishable under law, and is considered a serious offence. Amongst the common punishments given to cyber criminals are imprisonment, huge fines and even life bans from using computers.

Also cyber criminals are not easily given bail. This is not the space of legal issues. Instead, let me give you a living example which will surely point you in the right direction and choose between a cracker and hacker.

There was a 13-year old hacker in the US who with his other hacker friend

used to relish programming and hacking. They always enjoyed breaking into each other's systems and proving their superiority. They both were immensely intelligent and had the perfect mind needed for business. These geeks too could have crossed the'line' and become crackers and do all sorts if stupid things, in effect ruin their lives. But fortunately for them, and fortunately for us, they did nothing like that. Today we know them as BILL GATES and **PAUL ALLEN.

Both of them as you all know must be practically zillionares. If they would have crossed th line, they would probably have been spending their entire lives in jail. People would have calling them computer criminals and system administrators would never hire them. However they are wise and today and are today in a position which most of us dream to be in.

All real hackers know that an important hacker ethic is to never delete any files, or cause any damage to system which you have broken into.

Make good use of your additional bit of knowledge by doing something legal, something to improve the services and quality offered by companies, something which will do good to the software industry, which will do good to the economy .If you do even one of the above, I assure you will definitely become famous and would probably sitting in a pot of gold.

The following topic has been addressed in the wrong place(Choosing a legal software) and if some one has encountered any problems I apologize for inconvenience. *This is the only suitable Place I could find to Review my topic'Hackers'.

I strongly advice each of you people who has a shear desire to learn everything related to Network Security and Intrusion Detection. This books vary concepts from Trojan Horses to Key loggers and Attacks to Password Protection and Intrusion Detection.

Rank 3.Cyber punks and outlaws in Cyber Jungle.

Rank 4.Hackers Challenge

Rank 5.Web Hacking

Rank 6.Unofficial Guide to Ethical Hacking.

Rank 7.Network Security, A Hackers Perspective

Rank 8.Secrets of a Super Hacker

Hacking Exposed is one of my favorite books by Bruce Scheiner. This book has some excellent Intrusion Detection Procedures starting from Port Scanning, Enumeration to Advance Techniques in penetrating the Network. This review is ust for the knowledge purpose and thus the writer does not hold any responsibility for any type of criminal activity after the books are read.
