Recovering locked account from godaddy
Nov 10, 2009 04:35 PM 10550 Views

My godaddy account was locked on 13 October after I tried the wrong password 4-5 times.

I wrote a mail to support@godaddy.com

Hi,

My account was locked yesterday.

I tried and filled in the form several times and I could not still get back my account.

Can you please look into the matter and resolve?

Next day, I got reply from support@supportwebsite.com

from godaddy:

Shantanu,

Your account has been locked as a security measure due to multiple failed login attempts*. To have your account unlocked please respond with the 4 digit shopper PIN for your account. Once we receive this information we will then submit a request to have your account unlocked.

If you have the "Card on File" feature enabled, your account will become locked after a single failed login. When using this feature you must either make sure that you are careful to enter the correct password every time you log into your account, or you will need to disable the "Card on File" feature.

You can disable the "Card on File" feature by following the directions below:

• Log into your account and click on My Account.

• Click on Account Settings under the My Account menu.

• Click on the Account Security Information link.

• Uncheck the box next to Card on File.

• Re-type your email address in the Confirm Email field and enter your password in the Current Password field.

• Click on the Save Changes button below.

Since I can't login, the steps mentioned above are useless.

I am using godaddy since a while now and I have never heard about "4 digit shopper PIN". When was this introduced?

Anyway, I don't have it. I replyed.

I was now asked for last 6 digits of the credit card used at the time of ordering the domain name. My credit card number has been changed several times since then and I am out of luck again.

I wasted several hours using the "forgot password" and other password retrieval options without success.

As the account is locked no such feature would work, but this was not made clear enough.

I am now asked for scanned copy of government-issued photo ID, driver’s license or passport. I sent the scanned version of my PAN Card.

I was told that the image is not that good. I scanned the Permanent account Number card on HP scanner. Does godaddy recommend any other scanner?

Here was the response.

from godaddy:

Upon reviewing the provided image(s), we have not received sufficient documentation to substantiate this account. Please ensure that the documentation provided is a legitimate, current government-issued photo ID, driver’s license or passport. The image(s) provided must be clear, legible, unaltered and must identify the owner of the payment method used. Until reconciled, the referenced account must remain in a locked status.

Our goal is to reasonably ensure the payment method account holder is authorizing use of a payment method with us. If you do not have valid government-issued photo identification, such as a driver’s license or passport, please provide a statement from your financial institution showing the original purchase and subsequent refund.

Upon receipt of the requested information, we will re-evaluate your request to reinstate the account.

Sincerely,

Fraud Department

I used the best resolution option and sent the photoshop file. But it seems that godaddy doesn't know how to open a zip file and .gif and .jpg images are the only image formats accepted.

from godaddy:

Unfortunately we were unable to open the new attachments. Please try resending the documents in a .jpg or .pdf format.

Thank you,

I have spent several hours in the last one month to get back my account that was locked for no reason. The act of typing the wrong password a couple of times should not be penalized like this.  I sent as much information as I had and godaddy has now stopped responding to my mails.

Go-daddy has one of the worst user-interface I have ever seen. It is very time confusing to get the simple things done like creating a new database. I bought domain name through godaddy because it was cheap and I stayed with them because moving to a new domain provider was not that easy.

But I guess it is the time to start looking for another domain name service provider.
