Hi folks, I am a very net savvy person and also a computer freak. I cannot think of spending a day without accessing the internet, its a part of my life now. I used to live in Chicago and recently came back to India. I wanted to get a dialup service and looked at many services.
I tried Satyam and Tata VSNL connections. Satyam does not liveup to its true dialup speed and after like 15 minutes of data transfer between the pc and the net, the service would stop transmitting data! I called up Satyam and they said all the servers were up and running. When you get a Sify account opened up, you get an email address also with it.
I stopped using the dialup service but the email account is still open, which is good, cause I gave out my sify address to many friends. After this, I tried out Tata VSNL. Their dialup is just amazing!!! I even went only and played Fifa '04 on the net with another person in Europe.
Now thats what I call good speed. I spent 4K rupees on just my phone connection a month using this dialup service. I loved it. Then I wanted to get a high speed cable internet and stopped using this dialup service. I was also given an email address with the VSNL dialup account which I used regularly. After I sopped renewing the dialup account, my email account is now inactive and if I need to use this email service, I have to renew my account and pay a 100 rupees a month just to use email.
I agree they had a pop address and an smtp address so you can access mail in Outlook offline, and a charge for that is acceptable. But now in this day and age, to maintain an email address you need to renew a dialup account? That said there is no other way I can access emails now and spending a 100 rupees for this is not worth it at all.
My advice to all is, go ahead and use the Tata VSNL dialup service, but dont give out ur VSNL email address to anyone cause once you stop using the service, your email account will also be inaccesible. Hope this advice helps out all of you guys when going for a Tata VSNL dialup service.
