A sad demise of Godrej DVD Player
Sep 01, 2010 06:20 PM 19669 Views

I purchased a Godrej DVD player on 3rd Sept 2008 with a 6 months warranty. Within a couple of months it stopped functioning and was serviced on 3rd Jan 2009 under Service 0rder no. 190778 by setting right the Loader assy. For quite some time, I was not using the player, due to paucity of time. Now when I tried to operate, I got the same message “Not reading the disc" or” no disc".

I made a complaint on line on 30-08-2010. Since there was scant response, I sent a mail to so called "smartcare" and I got a call from their chennai service centre (no. 044-66544352) near my residence informing me that they cannot take up service as Godrej has stopped DVD line and I was to fend myself by looking to some private repairer. When I expressed my shock at the way I got the response, he said, he would arrange that someone from Godrej will call me up and arrange to do the needful. Within 1/2 hour I got a call from another gentleman of Godrej from phone no. 944-6630 0000 asking me for details. Since I was a bit busy, I asked him to ring up after 1/2 hour which he promised, but no call came.

I rang up the same number and spoke to a lady who takes customer complaints. She also abruptly conveyed that Godrej is not in DVD line and is unable to attend, but however she will convey the nature of defect to the concerned. After this there has been no response from Godrej.

I have sent a mail to the same "smartcare" expressing my anguish and disappointment.

I have a strong feeling that Godrej is good in Steel almirah but a failure in Electronics. What happened to DVD player might happen to other products like fridge, micro oven etc., God only knows.

I would like to get feed back from my dear friends of Mouthshut.com as to whether any legal remedy is available in such cases. It is pertinent to note that there was no press notification that Godrej had stopped DVD line so that the holders of DVD players could have sold the unit in time to someone interested, at a discount.
