Coorg Dews
Oct 12, 2006 05:05 PM 2949 Views

Ah! Dusshera holidays were fun for people like me who logs 14 hrs a day in IT companies.  I was searching for a destination closer to Bangalore and which wouldn't consume more than 3 days of my holidays- karwar was my first option and both my son and I love water bodies and can forget ourselves playing and swimming for hours!

Somehow this did not materialize and realized that Coorg was not a bad option either.  I tried desparately to book a cottage from homestaycoorg.com but owing to long weekend, all were full but was lucky enough to get a cottage bang next to river cauvery(with my wife's charm in getting a room booked!) at Dubare inn.

The drive to Kushalnagar, Coorg is rather strenuous, the roads are so very bad that I was holding my breath lest I hear a burst tire or two.  we were never on our seat from Mysore to kushalnagar and took all my driving skills to avoid bumps, as big as a crater on moon! I wonder why state department is not taking good care of people living beyond Mysore and Coorg.  Entire stretch of 106 kms took more than 3 hrs(awk!) and we reached the destination by mid-afternoon.  The weather was pleasant, air was thick with oxy-rich breather from plantation around.  People were smiling and very relaxed, unlike the cosmo-crazy public.  We just relaxed on the river bank that evening, watching the river flow and the only music we insisted there was the sound of water and not the blaring music system in the cars! The holidayers were decent enough to give us space.

We traveled to Talacauvery the next day, which was another 3 hrs drive(again the nightmare of bad road), though the distance was only 45 kms. The place is simply breath-taking- one need not visit swiss alps to devour nature- our very own land is bestowed with rich vegetation, small falls all the way to 3700 ft from the sea level and we are literally in the cloud, touch the heavy cloud and feel the mist in its womb! Given a chance to live, however frugal, I would live there eternally.
