AN OLDIE BUT A GOODY!

I doesn't matter if you are a Child or a Senior it is hard to eat properly both at home and especially when you eat out.

In 1988 I was a London Drug Store in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada when I saw a book called'Eating Out Nutritional Guide'. It was written by the Authors Jo-Ann Heslin, (M.A.),

and Annette B. Nathow, (Ph.D., R.D.).The book has 350 pages and I still use it today.

The book is a complete guide to eating out in Fast Food Restaurants, (although I use it often in any Restaurant I dine at). If you are someone who wants to eat healthy or on a diet I bet every time you go out to eat you have a problem what to order! Very few restaurants have a calorie or fat count on their menu's. I have noticed lately a few do offer a'lite meal‘. The book has helped my Husband and I make better choices when we order.

THE BOOK IS SET OUT THIS WAY:

It begins with a reference guide with information for more than eighty International and National Restaurant Chains.

The Fast Food Restaurant included are separated by food for breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner.

The Restaurants are listed in alphabetical order. For example: Arby's, Boston Market, Mac Donalds, Red Lobster, Starbucks and Subway.

Under each Restaurant listing there is a complete menu listing all the items served there. This includes beverages, desserts and salads.

For each food or item the information is:

  1. The portion size.

  2. The calories for each portion.

  3. A fat count in grams.

  4. The number of carbohydrates in grams.

  5. The amount of cholesterol in milligrams.

  6. How much salt, (sodium), is in the food done in milligrams.

Next the Book has  information on Snack Foods:

The list is done in categories and are listed alphabetical. For example: candy, cookies, ice cream, potato chips, pretzels and even yogurt.

Under each category there are a number of sub-categories that are listed under Brand Names: Kellogg's, Heath Bars, Health Valley, Lay's, Pop Corn, Quaker Oats through to Sunkist Juices and snacks.

I have used this book for about twelve years and because I still use it to count the items I mentioned above and as reference guide it is quite'dog eared' now.

You may think that because it does not have the newer Chains or Brands it would be outdated. I have learned what to look for and eat healthy.

If you kept a Diary of what you ate in one day and then looked up what you ate during the day you would be stunned.

I paid$7.00 CAD, (with no tax as Alberta has no taxes), when I bought it.
