Birthday Gifts . Review on Choosing Gifts in General

It starts a couple of days before your birthday, that funny feeling in your stomach, that little curiosity about what is coming your way this year. A birthday is a birthday is a birthday, and there can be no other day quite like it. May be because it’s the special day you first entered the world, or because it comes once a year or because you need some pepping for having aged and year more….gifts are awaited.

These gifts are a tokens of love. You cant follow a stereotype because all people are different, but I can tell you what I like and may be that will help you choose better.

Phone calls

Call up in the morning and if you cannot, send a sms and call in the evening. If you call me late, I’d think

a) its now you remembered my birthday

b) it was the most unimportant thing to do, so you did it after all the others

c) you spent the time deciding whether to call or not

Not to call a friend on his /her birthday is an unpardonable sin, other gifts can be delayed or dispensed with.

Number of calls received on your birthday is directly proportional to your happiness on that day. It touches you to know that people you feel might have forgotten you over time do think of you. It’s a joy to be remembered.

Flowers

Nothing like flowers to brighten up your day. But I think this gift should be given in moderation. A big basket of 75 roses has a repelling effect – it reeks of wastage and lack of imagination! that when there are hundreds of b’ful varieties to pick from….orchids, tulips and what not. Pick up a few stems, present with love and make someone’s day. I would apply the moderation rule to chocolates too, a bar of chocolate is better than a truckload of it, but then may be it’s a personal opinion.

Friends

No matter how many friends you already have, genuine friends are always welcome. I read somewhere ‘people will not remember you for what you did but for how you made them feel when you were around’. Gift people the magic of your friendship. Be a true friend and let people rejoice in your company.

Surprise them

Surprise them with something you know they have been desiring for some time or something that you being close to your friend know he/she would really like. The care that has gone in selecting the gift will show. And the gift need’nt even be first hand. On the last day of college, a friend gifted me her earrings she knew I admired and I have always treasured them.

You can also gift

· a b’fully framed framed picture of your friend and yourself

· coffee mugs of your friend’s star sign / some funny quotation

· movie tickets

· books -only be sure you know your friend’s taste(you can gift me Harry   Potter6 when its out)

· cards if they are hilarious/ define your relation truly

· clothes(if you know the size) and bags

· perfumes

and even

· mobile recharge coupons

Do not gift

· cash/cash vouchers

· expensive pens in cases – unless your friend is a collector

· crockery etc

None of us really needs gifts, we can buy most things ourselves. We are basically looking for a sign that the person has made an effort to make us feel special on a special day of ours. And if a friend deserves this happiness there is no reason why we should keep it from him/her.
