Dad- I Love U!

The third Sunday in June was Dad's time in the sun. But, a event like Father's Day can be a real sad time for people like me, whose dad is no longer living. There are many ways to honor a father, who is no longer with us, on Father's Day, and to keep his memory alive. Here are some that I prefer doing for my dad:

«Take out photographs of dad and show them to other family members. This will certainly hold his image in their minds as they celebrate Father's Day.

«Speak about my father with people who remember him. Recollect funny stories and special family moments. Try not to dwell on the sad parts of family history. Father's Day should be a time to celebrate your dad's life and achievements!

«Try to emulate the attributes that I valued and respected most in my dad - a great sense of humor, an unerring sense of direction, and so on. I try to find out the attributes that I believe I may have inherited from my dad.

«Spend some time alone if possible, thinking about my childhood and remembering dad in my own special way. No matter what your spiritual beliefs are, a few minutes of quiet meditation can help to keep your memories of your dad alive.

« It's always nice to do something that dad would have enjoyed on Father's Day. Like, watching a football match, go to a game or switch on the sports channel in TV that telecasts the same. Try to cook some special food that he likes or go out to a restaurant to try the same with family.

« If feasible try to give a Father's Day donation to dad's favorite charity in his name. This is a wonderful way to help others while honoring his memory.

«Make a photo collage or shadow box as a lasting tribute to dad. Place favorite photographs of him in a frame with multiple mat openings, or place a few special objects .(his watch, a medal, or some other token of his memory) in a shadow box display, along with a photo of him as I like to remember him.

«Try to spend sometime with someone else's dad(uncle, friend's dad…) This helps a lot to get through the day without a heavy heart.

«Try to find someone(A close friend or family member) to talk to about my feelings specially if I find that Father's Day is depressing me too much… So that I don't have to face the grief alone.

Remember… you needn't limit Father's Day to your biological dad. Do something nice for all the father figures in your life, whether grandfathers, stepfathers, uncles, godfathers, big brothers or that first boss who helped you launch your career. And that's where I find my father again!
