Friendship is thy name. Review on Choosing Gifts for a Best Friend

Two main occasions I am posting this review today - Friendship Week and my 50th review !!!

I have picked out the best definition for friend from a dictionary

A person whom one knows, likes, and trusts.

A person whom one knows; an acquaintance.

A person with whom one is allied in a struggle or cause; a comrade.

One who supports, sympathizes with, or patronizes a group, cause, or movement

Friends are an integral part of life. Choosing the right gift for a friend is tough as much as choosing a right friend. But why ? and what purpose does it serve ? Gifts are a way you can show you care. To make your friend happy makes you happy. But what gift can you give ? Birthdays may be the right occasion to shower them loads of gifts, but then you dont need an occasion do you. Your gift need not be expensive, classy or fancy. It isnt the lifeless gift that adds value. It is your love and friendship that gives life and meaning to the gift.

1. The Media

Consolidate all the favorite songs in a tape or a CD. Nothing can make your friend happier when it comes to listening to favorite music coming out of your genuine concern. Perhaps you could buy the VCD of your friends favorite movie. Click  your friends photograph and present it in a beautiful photo frame. If you know a little multimedia, perhaps you can do some editing and put some Angels costume on your friend and mail it to him. That dont mean that you cant try other stuff, like a devils costume ( spooks where are you), or place your friend beside Sharon stone or Tom cruise as the case may be. try anything funny, your friend is your friend nevertheless. You will be forgiven for any extent you may try to morph the snap.

2. Timeless gift

How about a personalized watch ? Go to any watch shop, and ask them to inscribe your friends name on the dial. Preferably your friends nick name which you address your friend. Every time he or she looks at the watch, you are remembered with pride. This also has another purpose. You are excused at times when you are late. Every time your friend looks into the watch, instead of cursing you , they may think about your thoughtfulness and forgive you. You can also try giving an alarm clock with a beautiful music, although you must make sure the music wakes one up instead of putting them to sleep.

3. Gift for prosperity

Feng shui gifts - the laughing Buddha, Chinese Coins and other related stuff. Feng shui is known to generate  positive energy. The laughing Buddha is preferably placed in fish tanks or at the entrance of the house. The coins are supposed to be carried in the wallet. Its a better way to express your concern for your friends prosperity. Consider this a wise investment. If you friend is prosperous, so are you , get it. The best gift in this aspect is remembering your friend in your daily prayers ( your friend need not know that you do)

4. The Taste Bud(die)s - pun intended

Occasion or no occasion, invite your best friend for lunch or dinner , better yet , go out. Dining outside has two advantages, one is you have your own choice of cuisine. Two , you are spending lot of time catching up with each other rather than spending time on cooking. Similarly, catching up for a drink ( who has time for soft drinks, I meant liquor) isnt a bad idea after all.

5. SURPRISE !!! ( certain section not meant for friends who are gals)

If its your friends birthday, surprise your friend with a birthday party. Now this has to be complete fun, of course at your friends expense.

a)Invite other friends in on your plan. Make sure you plan in such a way your friend least expects it.

b) When it is time to cut the cake, here is a little secret. Buy two cakes. The first cake must be a rather regular cake just enough for the party animals. The other should be one a small one. May be the size of your palm. The birthday message is written rather smaller. When its time to cut the cake, and the target is ready to blow the candles , you ask the target to read what is written on the cake. Ask the target to  read carefully and loudly. By now your friend is looking closely at the cake as  if missing something. Time for action. Push the targets head on the cake such that the face hits the cake. Make sure the face is completely covered with it.

c) After the cake pandemonium is over , (If your friend is a fun loving guy , not advisable for girls) pour some beer on his head., Beer is the best conditioner for your hair ( well may be you can try this on girls too).

d)  Then it is time for the traditional birthday ritual. The Bumps. Two comrades hold the target's hands , two on the feet, lift him up and make sure his behind lands light on the ground. Do this three to four times and then ask his age. Then start from the beginning. Some where midway , you lose the count. Start all over again. Do this till you are exhausted. Mind you till you are exhausted. Not the birthday baby.

With friends like me who needs enemies

Note: Handkerchiefs and Pens are not to be given as gifts or else you have to endure a life long separation from your friend. I am not superstitious but I dont take chances with my friends.

The best of the best for the best..

But material gifts apart, the best gift you can give a friend is your friendship. A shoulder to cry on when needed. A time to share those funny and happy moments. A simple get together with friends perhaps over a bottle of wine ( or two or three ) is more than a gift that can be cherished. so go ahead, make that special friend feel special. And ponder over what gifts you can get for davieboy. But the best gift you can ever give me, is be my friend, pray for me, Wish me good in every thing that I venture into. Ok enough of the sentimental stuff. To end this review in humor,  A special thanks to Reeper for the best gift he has given me was an assurance that he would spare my soul.
