Why do people use fragrances ?

Just to smell good...????

I have a different reason altogether. I am quite fond of going back to memory lanes and often get nostalgic. When I was about 17-18, I got a very small sized perfume as a gift. It was a really small bottle but whatever it was, it was beautiful.

Somehow I never got a chance to wear it and once I got invited to my friend's party and I decided to try it. The fragrance was earthy, romantic and familiar.

But just like all boring, predictable parties bring sensible people out to lawns/ terrace, courtyards, this one did it too. I stood there enjoying my mysterious new perfume dreaming and thinking about my future.

A total stranger came out to where I was standing and closed his eyes.

To my utter astonishment, he stood like that for one whole minute.

He opened his eyes and said to me ''''''Whatever that perfume is..... I will remember it for a long long time. '''' After a pause he said. '''''not just this perfume but everything else about it'''', smiled and walked away.

I was just too dazed to react. An event too memorable to forget and too fleeting to make any sense out of it had occured ! After a few more sprays, some dreaming and some blushing the perfume got over and I threw away the bottle, never to think about it again.

Y ears later, I went to a perfume store and tried to choose a perfume, I couldnt make up my mind. I kept trying the testers. Some were too strong, some very light and others smelt of fruits. A certain bottle caught my attention and I put some on my hand and smelt it. It was familar, I smelt it again .. yes.. yes..it was familiar..... but what ???

Finally I knew what it was. In a flash, I could recollect the special moment, the stranger, the night and the fragrance.

That beautiful , fleeting moment was captured in this bottle for ever.

And the name of the perfume was/is Chloe. I didnt remember the name earlier but I could trace it after so many years , just by the fragrance and the unforgettable moment linked to it.

Just like we cant forget certain names, certain faces, there are certain smells and perfumes that we cant forget. And I somehow connect a particular scent to a particular event or a moment. And Chloe just brought back my romantic moment.

Now that I wrote a review on Chloe, I am again nostalgic and going back to smell my Chloe and go down memory lane again.
