Another incarnation of Chitralekha. Meena Kumari is perhaps the most beautiful in this film. Must be seen if you want to see how beautiful Meena Kumari really was. She kills. The innocence, the beauty and the beautiful eyes, already killing, mix with middle age costumes. A film totally different from her other incarnations and tries to present her beauty. Not tragedy. I wish there were more films like this.

Though she has been termed tragedy queen, she has done great justice to the role in this film as she has done to all her non tragic roles and has presented beautifully and naturally. As always she is excllent in her performance.

The film background is middle age society but the subject matter and the moral of the story is evergreen- Wisdom, knowledge and power become superflous in the absence of strength of character. Misunderstanding of the underlying mechanisms of human society renders your wisdom and intellectual possesions useless. And who could best present this message better than Meena Kumari? The sufferer in real life due to the lack of these qualities in the men she came across!
