Actually, I wanted to skip this movie after reading some reviews and hearing negative comments from my friends. However, on a dull- day, as ‘Balram Vs Taradas’ heard to be of an old formula, I decided to watch this. And surprisingly…I found that ‘Chintamani Kola Case’ is well above average!

Plot
Lal Krishna Viradiyaar (Suresh Gopi) is an extremely intelligent criminal lawyer. He rescues many from the hangman. However, he has a brooding past and he is determined to fight evil. Therefore, he kills each of the real criminals whom he rescues …after the court judgement to free them! (Déjà vu of an English movie?) The only person who knows about this strange mission of Lal Krishna is his sister Gaja Lakshmi (Rekha ). And one brilliant cop (Biju Menon ) is after these mysterious murders.
Lal Krishna’s new assignment is to defend nine rich students of a medical college who rag ‘Chintamani ’ (Bhavana) a fresher and that leads to her brutal murder.
On the first day itself, they rag Chintamani. She escapes from the hostel in the night and later her body is found clinically cut and packed in several plastic bags! All the evidences point to the group of senior girls known as ‘Mirchi Girls’. Lal Krishna is roped in as the defence lawyer by the rich NRI parents. He rescues the girls from the sentence. However, he goes after the mystery and solves it in his deadly ways!
Script, Direction etc.
A.K. Sajan is sticking on to the theatrical dialogues just like those of his disastrous ‘Lanka’. But the treatment here is entirely different. Hats off to Shaji Kailas , the director. The new editing–prodigy Don Max has done the ‘on the spot editing’ which is revolutionary and is sharp. The cinematographer Raja Ratnam’s contribution also is remarkable.
Acting Performances
The best actor of the movie is Tilakan. He plays the helpless father of Chintamani. Once again, he proves that age or ill health cannot kill his skills. Suresh Gopi looks ferocious. His body language and some never-before expressions (!) are simply awesome. Bhavana as Chintamani and the nine models as the rich girls are adequate. Kalabhavan Mani, Biju Menon, Vijay Kumar and T.P. Madhavan have played their roles well. Sai Kumar as the public prosecutor is brilliant.Vaani Viswanath (as an assistant to Suresh Gopi) is pathetic with her continued overacting.
Flaws
The story has some basic flaws… I don’t want to mention them as it can spoil the suspense. Overall, it is packaged really well.
So….
it is one slick thriller …worth a watch!
