The Devil's Advocate. Review on Chindamani Kola Case Movie

Suresh Gopi plays the Devils Advocate in Chindamani Kola Case, but with a difference. Just like my friend jeetu I decided to give this movie a miss after reading negative reviews of the movie but I should say, I was impressed by this movie after I saw it.

I was not expecting much from this movie because the last movie of Shaji Kailas and Suresh Gopi called Tiger was really pathetic and I thought this movie is also on the same lines which will test the audience patience and torture our brains with senseless narration and characters.

Chindamani Kola Case is not without flaws, but atleast its different in some ways and keeps you interested in the proceedings due to 2 reasons

1) Suresh Gopi's characterisation, mannerisms and acting wins half the battle for the movie. You wish to see more of him as the movie progresses.

2) Shaji Kailas, is a surprising director. Sometimes he takes the audience for a ride with some duds like Tiger and Thandavam, but I feel given a good story and script.. his direction produces the maximum impact. Here again the camera movements, slick zooms, close up shots (assisted of course by camerman) really raises the impact and gets the audience involved.

The story goes like this..

Lal Krishna (Suresh Gopi) is the Devils advocate. He takes up cases for criminals who should have been punished by the law and rescues them only to kill them again by his own hands. According to him he works according to the cosmic law and is an highly intelligent criminal lawyer.

In the meanwhile Chindamani (Bhavana), a medical student gets killed and 9 girls and held responsible for brutally ragging and killing Chindamani. Their rich parents hire Lal Krishna as the advocate to save these girls. But Suresh Gopi has other intentions as he proceeds to save the rich girls from the judiciary. He delves deeper to unearth the real criminals and punish them..

Analysis

The script has few holes but is definitely better than some of the other malayalam movies. One big logical blunder in the story is how the court seems satisfied that the dead body is not Chindamani's. Suresh Gopi proves the DNA report of dead body is not chintamani on the basis that Thilakan is Bhavana's father. Later Suresh Gopi himself proves that Thilakan is not Bhavana's father. Thus making the DNA report irrelevant..

Well I guess logic takes a backseat in malayalam movies and you better dont think too much when seeing such movies.!!!

Shaji Kailas is a stylish director right from his early days and when he combines it with good story and suspense it really keeps the viewers interested. The movie is very slick and stylish although I feel they should have avoided Kalabhavan Mani in the movie as his character was not needed and no way connected to the story.

Last but not least Suresh Gopi is the ACE..The Trump card in the movie..Whenever he comes on the screen there is that vibrant energy and radiance. With his new hairstyle he looks rocking and delivers a good performance. Among others Rekha as Suresh Gopi's sister and Thilakan as Bhavana's father perform well.

All in all Chindamani kola case provides good suspense and thrills which will keep you interested for 2.5 hrs. It is an above average movie..Go For it
