Let me guarantee you, you have never seen something like ths before!This movie is going to give the Yash chopras and the Ramgopal vermas a definate inferiority complex about their skill and creativity and yes the unfortunate lack of imagination!
Chicago is a movie which should be watched by all film buffs because I assure you that you are going to fall in love with the concept, the treatment and the fantastically different execution...its the best musical i've seen with superb soundtracks!
THE PLOT...
Roxie(Renee Zellwagar) is a frustrated housewife married to Amos, who works in garage for fourteen hours thus leaving little or no time to spend with her! She wants to make it big as a dancer and thus flings around with Fred who promises her that he will talk to a friend who is associated to the club which she wants to join.
One night she goes to the club with Fred where Velma Kelly(Catherine Zeta jones)a wellknown and popular dancer is arrested by the cops in contempt of killing her sister and her lover, who apparantly she too loves , when she finds them making out!..After the show Roxie too goes home with Fred and there he discloses to her that he lied about the contacts and stuff and was just using her, and she kills him, thus getting arrested by the cops and put in jail where she has Velma whom she admires for company!Unfortunately both dont get along to well becuause of the brash and rude attitude of the latter.
When she hears that Mama(the jailor) can do anything for money she decides to hire a lawyer , Bill Flynn(Richard Gere)to take up her case. Bill is a money crazy lawyer who has never lost a case with a woman cliant and he makes each of his cliant famous by making the press run around for quotes and interviews, thus making it a big time issue! He does exactly the same with Roxie, by positioning her as a victim and thus gaining public sympathy. Thus Roxie from being a nobody becomes the most talked about woman in town!

THE DIRECTION,TREATMENT AND THE TECHNECALITIES...
Chicago is a fantastic musical told in the most unsual manner..The story is narrated in a dance and music format which blends fantastically with the story.The songs and dances are all related to the story and go perfectly in hands with the flow. The treatment of the film is so unusual and I feel this is one of the best film i've seen in the musical comedy genre! The songs are rightly placed and the story is narrated through the songs...its like a big canvas, you have to watch it to know what I mean!
The director is a man with immense imagination...i've never seen so much creativity. The story is very simple but also one of the finest, all thanks to the direction and the extraordinary treatment! The sets, costumes and special effets are just out of this world and they have managed to get that 20s' feel very successfully. The dialogues are superb and sometimes extreamly funny and witty. The cinematography is magnificent and so is everthing else...

The picturistation of all the songs was terrific..they were all related to the story in some way or the other and blended very beautifully....i loved them all!
THE PERFORMANCES...
Renee Zellwager: She was mind blowing, she is fantastic at comedy and her expressions, body language and dancing skills are outstanding!...she deserved an oscar!
Catherine Zeta jones: She as the harsh, rude and self centerred dancer was fantastic but I felt she was given a raw deal.
Richard Gere: Richerd gere as Billy Flynn the flamboyant lawyer who is after successful cases was a treat to watch...his tap dance and court scenes were brilliant!
Queen Latifa: She played the character of mama morton....no one else could have done what she did!...she was soo hillerious and the song ''when you are good to mama'' was too much!
Very very highly recommended for its outstanding treatment , magnificent songs, stupendous performaces and mind tickling comedy!
