On Friday, In Bonn, Valdimir Kramnik drew the eighth world championship game against Vishwanathan Anans and found himself 3 games down with 4 gamesto play. Kramnik's situation was almost hopeless b'cos his hyper-subtle had run into a brick wall against Anand.
Risk-taking & ultra-voilence was needed & if Kramnik went downs with guns blazing, no one would think worse of him. The 33 year old Russian would rather play a fault-free game than win through gamling or bluff. Each game $ Kramnik is an opportunity to try to creat a work of art, albeit one where his opponent tries to obstruct him at every move. in contrast, Anand is a pragmatist who would play bad moves if he thought they would confuse his opponent & lead to a win. Anand has played just as many masterpieces as Kramnik & the one game that Anand won in this World championship match the third one will be admired & replayed 4 decades to come.
