Cheshire Cat - BLINKing Good

Blink 182....my favourite band in the entire world....at times I have doubted punk's credibility, but in the end I have, and will, always come back to it....it is uplifting...it is different....it is punk.....

Blink 182 in particular are a great example of punk. Not so much by their newer albums, but most definetely by their older albums. Cheshire Cat, Dude Ranch, and later on the re-issue of Buddha, all stand out as great punk albums of the nineties. And rightly so, of course. I mean the guitars are fast, the drumming chomping and the lyrics, funny as hell. That is, to me, what punk is all about. I mean it may have changed, with a lot of bands taking a new direction and trying lot's of new stuff, much to the annoyance of their fans, but it is still here. And This album shows how strong the link has become in the past ten years.

The album itself is like no other. The band aren't all about the serious issues....'Ben Wah Balls' shows that. They are the band that everybody likes because they aren't afraid to take the pss out of themselves....in fact they take the pss out of themselves, because THEY like to.....how wierd is that....anyway, I find that this album is the second best out of the whole collection. The first is of course 'Dude Ranch', but this one gives it a run for it's money....it's very, very close.

The tracks on this debut, are all, well almost all, funny ones. They mock anything and everything, and they do it in style. Tracks like 'Does My Breath Smell?' and 'Touchdown Boy' are the sort of songs that all punkers should be spewing out, in their jamming sessions, and the reason is, because they are so good....so purely punk...nothing else..., and I admire that in the band...

My favourite tracks on the album are :

'Carousel'

'Touchdown Boy'

'Strings'

'Romeo And Rebecca' and

'Toast And Bananas'.

'Peggy Sue'

Below is the track listing, and a short bit about each track....

Carousel

M&M's

Fentoozler

Touchdown Boy

Strings

Peggy Sue

Sometimes

Does My Breath Smell?

Cacophony

Tv

Toast and Bananas

Wasting Time

Romeo And Rebecca

Ben Wah Balls

Just About Done

Depends

Carousel : This track is one of the best on the album. It is longer then the Buddha version because it has a little bit of guitaring at the beginning that wasn't on teh original. This one is also a bit faster then the Buddha version....great song....

M&M's : This one is a bit of a love song, about trying to impress a girl, and dreaming about being with her.....this is a bit of a fast song, but not the fastest...good song...

Fentoozler : I don't really like this one, and I am glad it is a short one....a good line comes along in the song though....''and do you think that it is right/for tom to spend another night/writing songs about all the people he thinks are gay?''

Touchdown Boy : This one is the second best track on the album. It is a funny track all about the touchdown boy, and how he is always getting head....and the bit near the end with the american football scene is hilarious.....great song....a PUNK song

Strings : This is another good one, but the differenceis that this one has some amazing riffage, and some wicked bass lines....the lyrics aren't bad either.....even though there isn't many, and they are repeated.....oh well, you can't have it all....this is also a proper punk song.

Peggy Sue : This is my third favourite song on the album. If you have listened to the live album, you will know this song, but this version is a lot faster, and a lot better....about growing up....very cool song...very PUNK song....

Sometimes : This is the shortest song on the album, and isn't all that bad...i think I said it was one of my faves on Buddha, but I don't feel the same way, because there is better songs on Cheshire Cat.....still not bad, with some fast riffs, and https://lyrics...

Does My Breath Smell? : This one is sort of a funny track, at least to me....i like it because it starts off slow, almost talking, and you can hear Scott and Mark talking about a girl in the background...then it gets fast and you feel like moshing so much!!! Another great song....pushing for the top three, but just missing out...

Cacophony : This one is as near as a ballad as you are going to get on the album. A slow one, about being afraid of commitment.....good song if not a bit TO slow.....

Tv : this one is once again a short track, and a not very good one...i think that '21 days' would have been better then this one on the cd....

Toast And Bananas : Once again, this one starts off slow, the nspeeds up and makes you want to mosh.....not the best on the album...pretty average punk....

Wasting Time : This one is about trying to impress a girl by being in a band, and trying to get her to like you, so you can be with her....

Romeo And Rebecca : This one is sort of a love song, but not a slow one like Cacophony or anything like that...this is officially my FAVOURITE SONG ON THE ALBUM!!!!!

Ben Wah Balls : This is the first of three proper joke tracks. About an old man falling for a girl then finding out that she is his daughter, because of his Ben Wah Balls.....brilliantly funny...

Just About Done : The reason this one is a joke is because it is just the instruments being played with lots of funny noises being made, and rude stuff said...not exactly the funniest joke on earth.....lol

Depends : This is the funniest joke track on the album....all about someone who keeps on soiling themselves....it is funny, and very up front......

After the last track there is about 1 minute + of Mark saying things in funny voices, like a rappers sort of voice, and a hillbillys sort of accent.....really funny....

There we have it, my opinion on Cheshire Cat...hope you like it!!
