It has been years when I had first come accross an article about crocodiles being breed and nurtured in a place near Chennai.
Being a favourite tourist destination, it is not possible for you miss the place as your drive down the East Coast Road from Tiruvanmiyur towards Pondicherry. Cross the toll gate, drive past Muttukadu, Taj and the place pops up on your left hand side.
Tickets for camera and family. Separate tickets for venom extraction demo with Irula tribe members.
The turtles are house inĀ cemented tanks with the top opening to the blue sky. It was a pretty sight to see the large turtles swimming in the green water.
Now the major star attraction - crocs!
It has huge spaces dedicated to one, two or hundreds of crocs - depending on the size, origin and the maybe its tolerance to human beings.
I never new that crocs can jump straight above water and maybe bite your hands off - that is what a sign cleary depicted.( Its true - I saw a Discovery documentary that shows crocs jumping above water to catch birds!)
They also have a baby croc for display and you can hold it in your hands! My kids were happy seeing a croc wriggling in their hands.
You can cover the entire place in about an hour.
The souvenier shop was closed .
They also have a night safari - but I did not wait that long. I started by 5 p.m for Chennai.
