These days it has become highly unpredictable to say which movie will become a hit. It is getting hard for movie makers to make a final decision about ?What kind of films will make it big in box office?? Because this year?s biggest hit ?Autograph? is both a commercially successful and critically acclaimed low budget experimental film.

It had a very slow narration with no big cast and no usual masala stuffs like gana songs, action sequences etc., On the other hand, another biggest hit is ?Gilli? a high budget film completely opposite to ?Autograph? is all aspects, a Tamil remake of a telugu block buster ?Okkadu? which had all the commercial elements in a racy screenplay like gana songs, item numbers, action, comedy mixed in right proportion and it also had a big star cast.

But to my wonder the rehashed version of last year blockbuster ?Kadhal Konden? is doing a good business which itself is slightly inspired from Kamal Haasan?s ?Guna?? I watched ?Chellamae? directed by A.V.Gandhi Krishna some two weeks before and I was disappointed by the hype created by media and other reviews on the movie. The movie has nothing special to offer and even I was disinterested to write a review on this movie but as I am free in my office today I am writing this.

These are the reasons quoted in various reviews for the success of the movie.

K.V.Anand?s Camera and his song picturisations

Yes definitely his visualization of the songs is trendy, colourful with different camera angles and he has made Reema Sen to look gorgeous and sizzling than ever before. The very first shot of the song ?Kadhalikkum? which lights up orange and yellow colour flowers in blue sea water which is quite transparent to the white sand beneath itself is evident of the great color sense of K.V.Anand and this shot is the signature background for the title of the movie. Not only the songs but also the scenes had rich visuals especially the climax underwater shots are worth mentioning.

Music by Harris Jayaraj

To some extent this is true; Harris comes with some decent stuff after duds like Arul Kovil etc. The songs sound better with the visuals. The songs are a big hit though all the compositions are rehashed versions of his old numbers and other A.R.Rahman tunes. But the background score is horrible except the theme music that comes to sound motherhood relation between Reema and Bharath. He has again rehashed and used ARR?s Ayuhta Ezuthu title music, Gentle man background score at many places. He has to improve a lot in scoring background. Again it is all if you see from Critics point of view otherwise it is a good background score that no one will care to take a notice.

Reema sen?s performance

I wonder what the hell made people to praise the performance of Reema Sen. I just hate her in this movie. With a north Indian look and too much make-up on her face, her expressions don?t suit her to look like a south Indian family girl. I could not find even a single scene where the dialogue delivery synchs with her lip movement. It is a big distraction. The role being vital for the movie they could have chosen some good actress.

But Reema is the trump card to attract masses. No doubt she sizzles in all the songs especially ?Vellaikara mutham? in which she dances with a single piece of towel on her body. Yes, she takes a major credit for the success of this movie not for her acting skills but for her skin show. But I think with fine tune she has the ability to make it in acting too.

Vivek?s comedy

No doubt Vivek makes us laugh in the movie. But Vivek can do a lot better comedy than this and I expect some fresh comedy from him. He has been doing same mimics of well known scenes, double entendres (scene with Mumtaz) again and again. But Vivek?s comedy adds enough masala to the movie and thank god he didn?t do any separate track and his comedy blends well with the screenplay. To that extent, it is bearable and enjoyable.

Racy Screenplay

A.R.Gandhi Krishna takes a bold attempt by choosing a plot with complex relationships. Kudos to him for his racy and tricky screenplay. Some of the brilliantly executed scenes are the entire climax, the way Vishal (IT Vigilence officer) finds the hidden valuable properties from a house in a raid, the way Vishal traces out the location where Bharath has taken Reema with the use of mobile number and credit card number.

Flaws of the movie

The director himself doesn?t seem to have a clear idea about what is the relationship between Bharath and Reema. There is no proper scene that registers the strong and strange relationship between them in our mind except the scenes in the title card. Vishal and Reema falls in love immediately and god only knows the reason why. The way vishal expresses his love to Reema and her accepting it and the scene related to it is unbelievable and too amateurish. The songs are not placed well. None of the songs have a proper lead and seems to be forced but as the songs and its picturisations are good no one cares about it. The climax is also quite disappointing and it is not a fitting solution for the problem dealt.

Movie Refreshners

Vishal a new find as the hero has a refreshing screen presence. With down to earth looks and good physique, he does a neat job as the IT officer and a romantic hero. He has a good future if he chooses to play natural and believable characters in his future films.

Bharath who got introduced as Bob galy in Shankar?s ?Boys? is going places. Thought his characterization is incomplete he does a good job and justifies his role (as a possessive 17 year old boy) to some extent. He shows maturity in acting in a immature role.

Even though the movie has lot of flaws, I could understand that all those are added for packing the movie as a commercial dish with enough masala. A.R.Gandhi Krishna is promising with some good skills in screenplay writing. Hope he would come up with classier movie next time with a right cast. On the whole it is a usual forgettable entertainer but watch it only for what it is and not for what you feel it should be; one should not watch such movies with an eye of a critic.
