Coming from a mush-lover, a 4 star for this

movie says a lot.

Though in a desperate effort to keep the

romance ‘sugar free’ I think they turned it a little bitter.

Amitabh as the arrogant

chef and Tabu as the 34yr old make the perfect couple. It

must be credited to the director and his team that not once does the couple

look odd. As you watch them entwine their fingers or smile and look lovingly

even perhaps lustily at each other, Lolita does not come to mind. And that my

friends, is a big achievement.

The couple has you rooting for them. You

forget this is Amitabh Bacchan, you forget he is 64 (though they remind you all

the time). All you really see are two people in love. Constantly teasing one

another, and engaging in a battle of wits that will make you smirk.

The dialogues are well written and even

though the joke about the waiter’s teeth is oft repeated, it evokes just as

much laughter each time.

The little girl called ‘sexy’ seems a bit

hard to digest in the beginning. But you’ll fall in love with her by the end.

Post the interval the movie takes an odd

turn with Paresh Rawal acting immaturely and going on a fast to protest against

his daughter’s relationship with Amitabh. While many thought this part to be to

melodramatic, I would like to definitely disagree. Paresh Rawal’s acting is

phenomenal and Amitabh’s lecture to him, though a bit odd, isn’t filmy at all

as many would have you believe.

His lecture is nothing but pure logic and

human insight. In no other movie will you see the ‘jealousy’ aspect being talked

of. The fact that perhaps at some level Paresh Rawal is just jealous that

someone his age can enjoy life, heck even begin a new one!

A view that though true, is never

acknowledged.

The movie is refreshing, unpredictable and ensure

that you stay awake and pay attention. Which one can’t say for too many movies

anyway.

But just one glitch, the second half has no

story. Just an odd dragged situation.

Reasons to watch

  1. Amazing chemistry

  2. You want to know what relationships are really like

  3. You haven't heard of a relationship where a man or woman are equals

  4. You think relationships are about mutual sacrifice

Reasons to skip

  1. You believe that it is not love unless you have are nice to each other all the time

  2. Your scope of acceptance is pea-sized

  3. Your brain does not register stories unless they are laced with dialogues like 'tumhaarey bina main mar jaunga!'

  4. You think a 64 yr old man and a 34yr old woman is 'chhi chhi!'

Watch it for the interesting relationship. **It’s

worth spending 200 rupees for.*
