Parents think it is essential to send their kids for coaching classes especially when they are in std. 10 and 12 to enable them to get more marks in the exams. However, how effective are these classes? I will say not effective at all. There is no alternative to hard-work. Coaching classes these days virtually run a parallel education system. If only the teachers in the schools were more efficient and sincere then the malaise called coaching classes would not have got life. Teachers in the run to make more money, do not teach well in the classes thus encouraging parents to send their children for extra coaching.
But do these coaching really help in achieving high marks. Maybe yes maybe no. These coaching classes as I mentioned above virtually run a parallel education system. They have almost 60-70 students in a class. Tests every weekend. They threaten and scare the children so much, that the child out of fear even when ill will not thinking of skipping the coaching class but will happily skip school.
Kids are under constant pressure from school, from parents, from coaching classes, poor souls dont know whom to listen and who not to listen.
My advice to dear parents is...leave your kid alone. They have their capabilities. I am not saying dont pay attention to their studies. Take a few hours out of your busy schedule and sit down and take your kid studies and see how he or she shines thereafter. There is no substitute to parents. Those parents who are not well educated or have been unfortunate to have got education can opt to send their kids to classes which are taken at home where individual attention is given to every child.
Last but not the least, let the child perform as per his / her capability rather than pressuring to achieve something that is beyond their capacity :-)
