We have already seen an 80’s remake go wrong last week. Another disaster would have made me shun remade movies altogether, but thankfully the David Dhawan flick has saved the remake saga (for now atleast) by pulling of a really spiced up and comical retake of the original. But like the title of the movie the U can be really replaced by the A – if you know what I mean. Even ehen I say this I should warn you that if you loved the original then you might feel a bit let down at some of the parts otherwise the movie is a whole hearted treat -  a joy you should never miss.

Chasme Baddoor is a story which revokes around three chaddi buddies and a damsel r much like the original. The plot does have some interesting additions and changes though. And these changes does not make this movie intolerable like some of Dhawan’s earlier flicks – remember Yuvraaj. It can be seen as a refreshing transformation to an ongoing trend where directors and writers mess up with original classics and replace it with some needlessly non-sensical stuff.

The three friends live a life of fun and frolic. Sharing troubles, rent and adventures. It is a typical life of a just of college bacjelors. All the three of them continuously keep hitting on girls and supporting and cheering each other on their ventures of love without any shame. They flirt with every woman they find which brings a lot of trouble on many occasion. But they have been surprisingly unlucky in love.

It is said that – all is fair in love and war which is true in this movie as well. A gorgeous lady becomes the cause of war between the three buddies and it is a hilarious one. Newbie Tapsee Pannu plays the role of a chirpy, perky lady. She is strong, independent and witty and does not want to marry unlike her fathers wishes. She has received support from unlikely quarters – from her uncle who is her father’s twin brother and have been at loggerheads with him. But love happens finally along with a lot of twists. In between there is a equally wonderful café owner and a gorgeous land lady adding icing on the cake.

The performances of all the characters have been good – Siddharth especially have been top notch. He  shines the best in the trio. Ali Zaffar has improved vastly as compared to his previous roles and Divyendu Sharma has essayed his role with perfection. I felt little disappointed due to Tapsee’s acting. She could have done much better by sadly falls short of what Deepti Naval did in the original.

She does have her moments though. Ranbir Kapoor has been at his versatile best and Lilete Dubey has been a perfect match as landlady Josephine. Anupam Kher seems to be irritating in some parts but nevertheless the veteran actor does his bit to entertain us. Bharti Achrekar is hilarious and reminds you of the mothers in Dhawan’s old creations. It seems like he has got his old groove back.

The plot as I earlier mentioned seems interesting to me than the original. The original was an out of the box concept for its time and Dhawan has manage to keep the freshness alive with the remake as well. The dialogues  and one lines seems absurd sometimes though it pokes fun at some of the Indian customs and even on our very own bollywood movies. There are vilgar and double meaning words used throughout the film and perhaps you should not take your children with you’ll. Otherwise this movie is a joy to watch.
