Call it the sudden change in the Bangalore climate, I'm mighty ped off. 250 trees uprooted by the elements has nothing to do with it although it hurts to see all those beautiful trees ending up as firewood, but then, nature is nature. No questions asked.
Cut the scene to that moronic reality wannabe program - Channel [V] Get Gorgeous.
Whats this all about?
Channel [V] launches a reality show to find a beautiful face (or two or four?) to give a 'prestigious' modeling contract to. The objective is to find a whole bunch of ducklings, attempt to turn them into swans (note that I didnt use the word ugly or beautiful because these are all states of mind rather than reflections in a vulnerable mirror made of fragile glass) and then filter out the ones that might not be model material. This causes lots of young girls, aspiring to earn their place in the spotlight, to work hard... only to endure some of the worst mental torture ever.
If you ever run out of a way to define RUDE - just point at the judges of this program. DOWNRIGHT RUDE!!!
Through the eyes of the contestants
Lets look at this from the contestants point of view. There is a great pot of gold at the end of the rainbow - a modelling contract to die for. Then there is the pressure of going through the fine toothed combs of several big names in the modelling and fashion industries. Then there are the judges who decide their fate. All this works well. Huge pressures are there to be overcome. Challenges are great and they help with the sifting process. After all, there can only be one winner. Its also a learning experience. You got to grant that.
How the 'big names' behave
Each episode, the girls are subjected to random 'tests'. Test of patience, test of endurance, test of mental stability, test of morale... The judges abuse, throw tantrums, act like they lost their virginity in the middle of a rain song sequence and most of all, lack class. They want to throw their pencils at the contestants, walk out of the room and generally use terms that can only be considered an INSULT!
Enough said!
Simon Cowell wannabes? Simon has more class in his little finger than all these judges combined.
It can be the BREAK... or it can BREAK you
Sure there is a modeling contract at the end of it all. But then, what about those girls who didnt make it? A girl gets rejected and one of the judges goes ''You have the best dentist around but we're sorry because we have to let you go''. Backstage, she's literally a wreck and she goes ''I dont think I'll ever take part in anything like this again...''. You could see the thought bubble in her mind reading ''I'm worthless''
MORALE DESTROYED. ASPIRATIONS DESTROYED. DREAMS DESTROYED.
A word to all those judges
When you are in a seat of power, you have to have the right balance of poise and control. No matter how huge the mistake, these are young people who need guidance and direction - not an assault on the very fibre that holds them together. You were young once and you've gone through the trials and tribulations. Unlike boot camps where abuse has a cascading effect, you're a television show that reaches out to civilization.
A basic stamp of class isnt too much of an ask is it? Young people look up to people who can guide them and pinpoint mistakes. Politeness can get things done too. And motivation can help anyone.
To Channel [V]
There are better ways to get ratings. Idea is good but dont take Reality to a limit where it starts to insult intelligence and becomes harassment of the worst kind.
