Bollywood’s success formula…

“ Only Two things sells in bollywood, Shah rukh and Sex” by Neha Dhupia…

Well don’t be mistaken this is the personal opinion of Neha Dhupia and not the success formula of Bollywood.

It’s been 60 years of excellence, emotion, drama, action and comedy. Bollywood has gone thru good and bad periods, controversies and loses. People have made big and ruled the hearts of the nation , so we have seen the downfalls also.

From Madhumati to Julie , From Sholay to Murder from Dilip Kumar to Shah rukh Khan from Dharmendra to Salman Khan bollywood has gone thru many changes but one thing that has not changed is the level of Indian cinema. Directors, Producers, Actors and Actresses have spend years but no one till now is able to find the Perfect formula for a hit movie.

Bollywood is still searching for a perfect success formula. Every year Bollywood comes up with thousands of movies , infact our Bollywood is the highest producer of Movies worldwide and to correct the things here we are also the one with worst success rate. Every year we see only a handful of movies are able to recover their cost and rest fades away in the initial days of their release only.

Now lets discuss some of the famous formulas which has been used time and again to work out a superhit movie

LETS MAKE A SUPERHIT MOVIE

FORMULA NO ----------1

SEX SEX AND LOADS OF SEX

All right so the first formula that has been tested time and again is to make a movie with loads of sex scenes in it. In this case story and screenplay doesn’t matter all that matters is casting the right actresses who is ready to shed her clothes at her free will. Well mix it up with 17-18 smooch scenes some cheap dialogues and you will get a movie that will fade in metros but will do wonders in small areas.

Does it work..?

Well this formula has been tried since time immorial, From Zeenat aman to mandakini from Parveen Bobi to Maika sherawat all these females did their best to wear the minimal of clothes and to make the movie hit…

But the bottomline is except for about 1% of these movies rest have not been able to recover their cost..

Khwashish, Murder and Julie are the only hit movies while so many movies like Hawas , Bach ke rehna re baba, Sheesha etc etc have bombed in the box office..

Final result… NOT A SUCEESFUL FORMULA

Final word: Flop Formula

FORMULA NO#2 MAKE A BIG BUDGET MOVIE WITH HUGE STAR CAST OR HIRE SHAH RUKH KHAN,…..

Big banners like Yash raj Films, Karan Johar , Vidhu Vinod Chopra etc rely heavily on big budget and huge star cast and come up with superhits. If we will see Shah rukh has done wonders for Yash Chopra and Karan Johar but is this a good formula to just rope in some of the A list actors and make a big budget movie..? well the answer is NO…

Again only a handfull of movies works just because of big star cast in the recent times Swades, Paheli, Dus and Maine pyaar kyun kiya have all bombed in the Box Office inspite of huge star cast and big budgets..

Final result: Not Sucessful

Success rate: 25%

Final word: Good if you have a strong story line to support the same.

FORMULA NO#3 MAKE A REMAKE OF A SUPERHIT HOLLYWOOD FLICK

Now this is where our directors are expert in. Watching A dozen of Hollywood flicks from thrillers to comedy to emotion whatever is big there they just remake it and try to sell to our Indian audience. Again only a few infact a very few movies have been successful which have been adapted from Hollywood flicks.

Vikram Bhatt, Mahesh Majrekar and the David Dhawan are masters in remaking the Hollywood movies in Bollywood. But only a handful of these movies have been success full so I rate this as the worst formula.

Final result: Not successful

Success rate: 5%

SO WHATS THE HIT FORMULA….?

Years have gone millions of movies have been made but no one is able to know what people want..?

What works in Bollywood is a million dollar question..But with the recent success of Munnabhai MBBS, Bunty aur Bubli and Veer Zaara one thing is per sure what works is a good story accompnieD with excellent direction and casting the right actors in the right roles. Thts what I feel .

Movies like Page-3 with pretty low star cast making wonders is once in a blue moon otherwise strong story with new star cast is a great risk

So my verdict is find a good story , hire the top actors hire the best director get the best music and than leave it to public and god cause no one knows what sells in India...
