Director Clint Eastwood gives us a loose dramatization of the Wineville Chicken Murders and the accompanying media blitz and police scandal that rocked Los Angeles in the late 1920s.We may sympathize with the mother(Angeline Jolie) or despise the killer but the entire movie fails to bring out any strong emotions at all owing to it's lack of coherence and cohesion.
On a positive note, this isn't your regular drama.it has the suspense of a thriller and mildly chilling horror.Like many movies nominated for the oscars, this one has been over-hyped.
We start with the trauma of losing a child and the corruption of the police department to the inhuman treatment at asylums.Towards the end, however, it gets painfully exhausting and long with an utterly boring courtroom scene. Jolie fails to give us any chance of truly understanding the character with blank, emotion-less yet watery eyes. The music was quite comforting but the script was disappointing with a bad last line.
Changeling could be missed, even if you're a Clint Eastwood loyal.
