Its very rare for me to watch a movie during its first week. Normally I read enough reviews of the movie, check with people who have seen it, find out how many stars are there on MS etc etc before I actually buy the tickets.

Well… it was a different situation this time. A friend of mine planned out for the movie and booked the earliest available tickets…. of course, that was before I saw the reviews.

Then I got to see the reviews and ratings.

  1. Not a single appreciative review from anyone

  2. Average rating of 1.5 stars

  3. Critics completely wrote off the movie.

Then I was not sure, if I really wanted to see the movie. But the tickets were made and the plans were made final to go with family. So I decided to go through this pain.

But to my pleasant surprise, the experience in the theatre was entirely different. You can say that this is not a movie that will go down as a milestone of our times, this is not a movie that will be remembered for the story or performance or direction. But it was definitely the kind of movie that you can laugh through out.

Something about the movie:

There is nothing much to write about the movie. It is a simple storyline, with the whole story revolving around a naïve guy from Chandni Chowk called Sidhu(Akshay Kumar). He has all day dreams of making it big, but the fate never goes in his favour.

Another country – another story. A village in China is suffering from the tortures of a villainous Hojo. The villagers believe that the only person who can rescue them is the reincarnation of their mythological hero, who they believe is borne as Sidhu in Chandni Chowk.

What follows is a madness of series of events, like a never ending joke book. Throw in a series of characters, a double role of Deepika Padukone and some inspirations of typical Manmohan Desai style – you get “Chandni Chowk to China”

Performances:

Akshay Kumar as Sidhu is a natural. He is definitely the show stealer. His knack of comic performances seem to be getting quite natural. This movie seems to be made for him – a cook, in China and doing martial arts!

Deepika Padukone is as good as she could be in the limited roles. Her performance as miss TSN is quite funny, while she has attempted being sensuous as mis Miyaoon Miyaoon J

Chia Hui Liu as Hojo has done a decent job and so has Roger Yiuan as inspector Chiang.

Mithun is in a short but impressive role.

However, the surprise pack of the movie is Ranvir Shorey as chopsticks. He is funny, his impromptu performances were good and as the translator – essentially playing the same with audience too, he is good.

On the technical side, both the direction and editing are highly forgettable. There is hardly any story writing and music is mostly monotonous. However, the highlight of music could be the medley of old TV ads in the first half.

My overall feedback:

This is not a Kagaz ke phool that will leave a lasting impression on you.

This is no Sholay that will be remembered for its fight scenes.

This is no DDLJ that the dilogues will stand out forever.

What it is, is the fact that it is entertaining to the core. It’s a headless and sense-less comedy. You need not apply your mind, you need not try to understand the concept – just watch it and enjoy.

If we have passed Amar Akbar Anthony and Main Hoon Na in the past, I feel we can watch CCTC also.

This is a movie to be watched once and then forgotten.definitely not a movie to be seen for the second time J
