Chandini Chowk is that type of kitchy restaurant with a decor that will put a smile on your face.
We used to go to the restaurant a lot in the past since it's near our place, but over the year it seems the quality has gone down and the prices up. Once upon a time they had a wide variety of non-veg items that did taste different, and a yummylicious "Murgh badami" I was quite fond of. Gone it is now, as it seems the chef finds it simpler to make a butter chicken gravy for everything, and add a little methi to turn it into a "methi murg" or any other ingredients to make one of the few left on the menu, quite boring if you ask me.
Chandini Chowk was also our choice for home deliveries, they take about 30-45 minutes to cover the 1.5km it takes to reach us but it still comes in handy when we have unexpected guests at home or feel like sinking our teeth in some non-veg food and drinking beer at home and it still comes cheaper than going out.
There is something to say about the consistency, and they can't seem to be able to keep something as simple as a butter chicken(their base reciepe let me remind you) as we ended up having some bland tasting on one occasion, mild and flavourful another to downright hot an unedible the next. Ditto when it comes to naan and roti, you could end up with a nice warm and fresh one on your plate or something that would have you wished you ate your bathroom slippers instead so much it was rubbery(though on home deliveries I found that the best remedy to rubber naans was to moisten them with water and dump them in the microwave oven for a few seconds and it becomes edible again).
All in all, a fun joint, some starters will cut it and somehow be up to the price tag put on them, the main courses are fine if you aren't looking for anything fancy. The reason we don't go there often anymore and order instead is that we don't see the point of sitting down on granite slabs when we can sit confortably on our terrasse.
