~~~No Dance No Chance~~~. Review on Chance Pe Dance

Today’s youth are ambition driven. Parents too are taking a lesson or two from the youth. No wonder a weakly scripted Idiot is running in packed houses even in its 4th week. When the need for success is created and the need is planted in the audience what the writer or director needed to do is simply make it happen.

If things are that simple, then why films on success and motivation are not been made of that easily? First, they fail to create a need for success. Second they fail to show how they achieve this success. Three they fail to convey/share the joy of success with the audience. Chance Pe Dance succeeds in removing first hurdle, by creating a desperate need for the hero. It however failed to present the success way nicely and pass the spirit of success to the audience.

Good looking, highly talented and well spirited Sameer (Shahid Kapoor) is in Mumbai for last 3 years with a dream to have a break in big screen. Bad luck follows him everywhere and he only manages to give auditions after auditions. The only successful project he got was a ‘Lungi’ ad which he disliked despite its success. Financially he is broken and now in street, err in car. All at a surprise he gets a chance to be the hero of a movie based on dance. Then….bad luck doesn’t leave him there too. Impressed by his dancing skills, a choreographer, Tina (Genelia Dsouza) is all admiration for him and by chance she too gets a break into films for the film Sameer is been selected as hero. Now, drama begins….watch Chance Pe Dance what the film has to offer to Sameer & Tina.

Chance Pe Dance is a film which had potential in the plot but weak writing and direction let the episode down to an extend. The film went ahead and ahead and ahead showing struggles of the hero and explaining the injustice the world is giving to young talents, then it had to wind up the show in a film’s length and rushed rest of the show, like Tina’s driving at the end, not convincing or impressive. At times it was attempting to be a Luck By Chance and some times a Chak De India and failed in both. The entry to the right road of success is been delayed, only to hurry it later when the warning bell is rang. Ken Gosh has to wait for his success in films.

Shahid Kapoor is rocking in scenes where the script gave him a chance to perform. The scenes where he impresses Tina, the dance on stage in the climax etc. are examples. Genelia too was impressive, but her role was limited in remaining good looking and giggling with the hero. Here too the script is to blame. Rest of the cast did their roles ok.

A film based on dance and music should have outstanding music and fast numbers with good beats to hum and twist. Music of the film is just good (failed to be very good) where lyrics failed the music to give away only an average feel to the viewers. Two songs are noticed for its choreographical brilliance, one where the dreams made the youngsters bigger than the buildings and the climax song (Pump it up). Otherwise choreography didn’t impress. Moreover, dance was missing in the movie, except in one audition and on final stage.

Overall, Chance Pe Dance is just watchable for Shahid Kapoor and Genelia Dsouza. Otherwise the film let down expectations. Weakest UTV film of recent time!
