The major problem with Chamku is that the makers have relied on the tried and tested formula that has been witnessed zillion times earlier.Director Kabeer Kaushik who earlier directed credible Sehar, seems to have relied too heavily on the age old formula of attempting a good versus evil saga. Though he has tried to inject some freshness with his treatment, but the film is a regular desi potboiler that holds no appeal today.

The film tells the story of Chandrama Singh aka Chamku(Bobby Deol), who was brought up by Baba(Danny Denzongpa), a Naxal leader based in Bihar, after his family was murdered. He later works under a covert Governmental program jointly conceived by RAW and Intelligence Bureau to carry out political assassinations.

He falls in love with Shubhi(Priyanka Chopra), a kindergarten teacher, and decides to lead a reformed life but a chanced encounter entangles him in the world of crime once again.

The story is the weakest POINTof this film. It offers the same revenge formula-ridden twists and turns and a typical story of 90s . The screenplay is outright predictable and the execution has nothing novel to offer.Still the first half is watchable. The way Danny is eliminated was shocking, while the encounter thereafter is well executed.

The interval point holds a lot of promise, but the 2nd half is absolutely unbearable .The script gets monotonous and takes on a lot of cinematic liberties. The Akhlindra Mishra track which resurfaces in the second half was bogus making the film look straight out of 80s and 70s.Even the climax disappoints. .

Musical score is also a downer. The placement of songs towards the second half is improper, for they look forced . Action scenes are jaded.

Bobby Deol is strictly okay. Priyanka is wasted. Ritesh has a brief role and registers no strong impact. Irfaan is as usual.

A totally avoidable film.
