There has to be a severe repulsion initially; however only to come close in the end when either of them changes for better. The same happens in the life of Mihika Banerjee (Lara Dutt) who is otherwise, a finicky perfectionist with right mannerisms, right code of conducts, right use of time, right diet and right use of language. She is an over-ambitious married lady who rules the lives of 160 men at her office, and tries to keep emotional situations like, celebrating birthdays out of her serious, business life.
Mihika on her lookout to reach USA before-time for her business lands up in a troublesome journey which starts from Mumbai and with Mannu Gupta’s undergarment coming over to the windshield of Mihika’s car. Following this horrendous experience & Mumbai traffic she misses her flight to Delhi to meet her husband, and lands up in Jaipur accidentally, with this joker-cum-rescuer in her life, Mannu.
The rest of the movie focuses on their journey where this loud and obnoxious Delhite, a complete contrast to Mihika’s kind of class, comes to save her every now-and-then when she felt deserted or insecure, with due respect and humanitarian mannerisms. Mihika who is on the other hand, a typical snob gets grounded after the strange meet, and starts taking life easily and cheerfully. We see Mihika in the end, as a transformed woman who now pays attention to small happiness that relations can bring, a adjusting boss and most importantly, a better human being who learnt enjoying the first sunrise after the beautiful starry night under the blue sky.
The movie is simple, depicting simple lives of simple people belonging to the lower middle class section of India, through Mannu Gupta (Vinay Pathak). However, there’s a hidden truth behind all apparent simplicity, that is, it is not easy to maintain simplicity. It requires lot of guts to face the harsh sides of destiny that can occur to anyone’s life without any reason. And the climax exactly teaches a lesson how to have such a cool disposition under any difficult or adverse situation in life.
The script has made the difference of making an ordinary movie, extraordinary. The punch-lines, the dialogues, the characters (even the cab driver) were beautifully crafted with every detail as to how to stare, where to stare etc. Along with the script, the actors made the movie lively. Each and every actor played their respective roles with spontaneity and natural ease. The two leading actors, Lara Dutta and Vinay Pathak need a huge applaud. I always consider Lara as a talented actor in the industry, though she doesn’t get the right exposure. But whenever and wherever she got opportunities she made a complete justice to each one of them. Her snobbish attitude, arrogant facial expressions and superficial pride of thinking highly of herself were top notch. On the other hand, Vinay Pathak is one actor who never does it wrong. His uncouth manners like farting, burping & blabbering with each person he meets asking for favors make him a natural dislike for classy people. Yet, in the end, when Mihika invites him to her birthday party at her home and Mannu hesitates to pay a visit, thinking him to be a misfit in her elite society; Mihika humbly admits she is a bigger misfit in this world as she could not adjust to all situations that came up. Excellent acting by Vinay as a simple, happy-go-lucky and middle class man possessing a genuine heart of hospitality, honest pursuits and gentleman-qualities. His humble expressions of simple requests from life, in the climax touched every soul who watched it. Overall, it’s a very well made movie catering to good story line, good acting, healthy relations and smart handling of situations that made it a complete entertainer.
Lastly, I would personally give bonus marks to the movie, for emphasizing on relationships. The relations handled between a husband and a wife, the two strangers from different worlds, between two friends who get bonded life-long out of desperate moments, and between a man and a woman who not only addresses each other as ‘behenji’ and ‘bhaisahab’ but also maintain the code of conducts that follows with it.
