Not to be missed. Review on Catch Me If You Can Movie

After a long time I got the chance to watch a movie... and a good one at that... With the Cricket World Cup in full swing the movie scene in Mumbai has become really sad with most major releases being postponed to after the cricket fever ends.

Back to the movie... Its based on the real life story of Frank William Abagnale Jr perhaps one of the most intelligent and succesful fraudsters of all time. The story begins in Frank's early teen years when he has to face the trauma of his father's financial ruin and his french mother's extra-marital affairs leading to the breakdown of his family. He's asked to choose between either of his parents to be his custodian. Unable to bear the trauma he runs away and that begins a series of impersonations and frauds that take him first across america and then across half the world... with FBI agent Carl Hanratty hot on his heels. He moves with amazing speed running from the law, improving his techniques at each step till Hanratty finally manages to catch up with him in France. The most amazing thing about Frank is his confidence and cunning aside from his talent for forgery... He is capable of improvising a great deal in most situations... While attempts have been made to link his capabilities to the 'training' by his father... the link is at best tenuous and dad's training is nothing compared to what Junior accomplished on his own improvisation. That's the genius of the man who went on to become one of the most potent weapons that FBI ever had against fraudsters.

The lead role is played wonderfully by Leonardo Di Caprio, The man can act, hats off. Hanratty is played by Tom Hanks which is a good performance. Hanratty's character is considerably underdeveloped... It can be excused considering the lack of time and that the protagonist is such a complex personality that the story literally revolves around him and the cat and mouse chase.

Steven Spielberg does a great job at direction however being the legend he is we certainly expected much more... Maybe a full length 180minutes movie... considering that so much was left untold... Nevertheless a great movie not to be missed.
