CAST AWAY is one movie you should not miss if you want to experience the loneliness of a Cast Away on a virgin island with not a soul living on it. You see his loneliness at close quarters. His struggle for survival with the only companions being the coconut trees, crabs, fishes. He learns to break coconuts carefully enough to save the water for his thirst and lives on coconuts crabs and fishes. Imagine his plight where he has to eat these raw to live.At the start, he makes all attempts to get help, but realising all is in vain, he is left with two options...survive or die. Most of all he misses humans, he starts talking, laughing by himself....At the end of four torturous years you find him reduced to the Stone Age Man, adept at swift fishing, he has also succeeded in making fire,...and this scene is an unforgettable one. He is seen jumping around the fire with his arms stretched to the dark skies and shouting loudly ''I have made the Fire ! His only witnesses are the palm trees and the dark sea. To maintain his Sanity he has etched out human face around him for company. There is this touching scene where he uses a Volleyball which he finds in one of the FedEx parcels floating around, as a human head .He manages to create a human face on it and this becomes 'Martin'his friend, companion and confidante during those four years. The scene where he loses Martin in the rough ocean on a stormy night, is very painful and we are filled with grief and we weep with him, as he falls on his back sobbing, lonely and defeated amidst the dark waters and rain lashing down on him. His body is lean, his bearded face tired and wasted. Tom Hanks has lived his role as the loney Cast Away, a loyal, hard-working FedEx executive who is a victim of a plane crash. The scenes of the plane crash, and the wild, stormy, gigantic waves in the rough ocean and the sound effects are all beautiful. An unforgettable film.It unfolds Man's utter weakness before the Mighty Nature, his quest for survival and his innermost strength which can surface and tide over any odds in Life.
