Since there are mixed responses about this movie I decided to watch it myself. The story is made directly from the novel "Casino Royale" written by Ian Fleming. Many movies like'Spy Who Loved Me' though had the same name as the novel, did not have the same story.
STORY: The story is the first mission of 007 where in he has to stop Le Chiffre from winning a poker game in Casino Royale, a famous Gambling hotspot. If Bond fails, Le Chiffre could fund Terrorists. Ever since the announcement of Daniel Craig becoming Bond it drew great hatred and suspicions from all(Brosnan) 007 fans. The beginning of this movie is as that of a Spielberg movie - reminded me of Schlinder's list. Bond kills someone in his own Office. Then he's sent to counter Dimitrius, LeChiffre and other associated men.
Well, the day after Casino was released, I heard on BBC "Has the best Bond since Connery returned? So say the English Bond fans". I was surprised. I watched CR just yesterday. I really did not feel like comparing Craig with Sean Connery(watched Goldfinger and Dr. No. couple of days back). A successful cocaine dealer working his way to be England's Mafia elite will suit him much better than the British suave top spy. I could not help but laugh seeing him emerging from the water with his egg shaped head, the sticking out ears and the straw organized blonde hair. Is it James Bond or Smeagol the Gollum in LOTR? So confused I was( He looks more like that when he bulges his eyes driving his DB9 later)!
Comparitively, Sean Connery is original, neat and simple in every scene - whether during the Baccarat or with Ursula Andress in Dr No or with the exceptional Pusssy Galore or setting up the bomb in the pre title scene of Goldfinger. So were Roger Moore and Brosnan(exception: Die An Day and Man .Golden Gun). Bond does great advertising for SONY, OMEGA and FORD. all over I could see only SONY Vaios, Blu Rays and S.Ericssons! Hey SONY - you own world's 50% movies- is that not enough? You are like hell and stomach - never sufficient with how much you get! This what I call monopoly! James bond without gadgets?! Forth, The DB9 appears in the movie in a few scenes maybe two times only(parked), may I ask why isn't it being used?!
Well there was one hot chick in the movie. She was in the movie for 5 minutes, just long enough for her to explain she is married to a bad guy, but not much else. She was tortured and killed. It's a pity because the Bond girl who Bond falls in love with(if that doesn't kill it, nothing will), is obviously not the kind of action filled girl that a secret agent would go for. More like a nun with a side-boob shot.
BOND: "Did you know that I'm a gaybo?"
VESPER: "Really, but the thing I wanted to know is the brand of your watch?"
BOND: "OMEGA!".
So third class! After a slim Brosnan here comes a tough muscular Bond. Yesterday you met a man named Robert who's slim. The very next day you see another man who looks, walks talks different yet introduces himself as the same Robert - would you believe him? If you want to watch CR believe it cos Bond is like that. You see, British are different by looks. My cousin recently married a Brit girl who brought her pals down here. Some looked so good that Indians/Asians are blown away. Others look so featureless that even a pathetic Indian could outclass. Craig belongs to the latter type. If one observes his structure from back when he catches the Black inside his embassy, one can veify this). Just bcos his acting is fine why cast him as the Legendary 007? Oh yes the villain. Is he a clone of Marilyn Manson the controversial Satan worship singer( Image google yourself to find out)? So pale and dead. Recall the top notch performance by Gustav Graves in DAD? And ROMANCE - Oh my God a B&W Tamil movie'd be better off! Perhaps the biggest cinematic crime CASINO ROYALE makes is throwing the continuity of the series out the window. Granted the Bond series has never been about continuity, but what's done in'ROYALE' is a giant slap in the face to anyone who has been following the franchise for even the past few installments. Followers feel so betrayed. My friend once said "I wasted my time and money to watch them play cards. Silly! BRING BACK SEAN CONNERY IN A WHEELCHAIR - HE'D LOOK BETTER THAN CRAIG". That sounded more sensible to me than the movie.
BOTTOMLINE:
A) Daniel Craig Got to Go!
B) New "M" . please.
C) More suspense and Gadgetry for the next Bond.
