Casino Royale - The name is Craig, Daniel Craig!

The lady boss exhorts Bond not to break into her house and he complies with the reprimand; only to commit more intruding offenses from her perspective, in order to curb the most heinous acts of violence and terrorism, prevalent these days all over the world. Needless to say, the new Bond effortlessly breaks into the hearts of tens of millions of his fans across the globe. Casino Royale is the new installment in the most famous series of celluloid extravaganza that has, time and again, mesmerized the moviegoers for more than last four decades. It wouldn’t be appropriate to debate over if this is the best Bond film ever made or Daniel Craig is the best Bond ever in the history of Bond films since the opinions, perceptions and notions are always subjective and the technologies, methodologies and objectives involved in the film-making have evolved exponentially over the last few decades. Even if one cannot decide if this is the best Bond film ever made, one thing nobody would deny that Casino Royale is a must watch for its breath-taking adventures, thrilling montage, tight screenplay, crisp dialogues, powerhouse performances and above all, almost impeccable direction. Truly, Casino Royale is a feast for those who love watching entertaining yet intelligent cinema.

A tight screenplay plays important role in making a film worth watching, not only once but several times. Casino Royale boasts of a great screenplay that sets the screen on fire and fuels it ceaselessly till the end. The only drawback is it slightly slows down in the second half for a short period of time. The writer has succeeded in highlighting the surprise and curiosity element throughout the film and execution complements the plan beautifully to make the product a treat to enjoy to the fullest. Dialogues are concise yet carry great meaning. The chase scene in the beginning is simply awesome. The controls have been used efficiently while shooting this sequence. It successfully sets the context and builds the tempo; and underlines the undying fighting spirit of the protagonist. Same is the case with the vehicle chase sequence that culminates at the foot of a colossal airplane and the same fighting spirit of Bond wins him the battle, journeying through an interesting gamble game. The most important thing about the screenplay and the film is, this time; the makers have kept the entire affair very simple and believable. They have purposefully avoided making Bond’s part very flamboyant and miraculous. He has been portrayed as a normal human being armed with those extra skills of fighting the enemy and above average intelligence.

Daniel Craig has literally lived the character. He or most appropriately, his looks might have invoked mixed or negative reactions to his playing the part, before the release of the film; but silencing all the detractors, he has given extraordinary performance in Bond’s role. He is undoubtedly superb. He has great sense of acting and he can carry any genre of acting with élan. Eva Green is appropriate but doesn’t fit into the typical Bond’s girl imagery. All other actors have performed extremely well.

The finale of the plot has been shot with wisdom and it is full of twists and surprises. It may appear as a patchwork though. The main culprit is apprehended in a dramatic way although this could have been made more interesting. Nevertheless, Bond doesn’t disappoint the audience and performs his assigned duties with great panache. After all, the name is Bond, James Bond!
