Earn money the hard way – STEAL IT! Says the Ad cover for the film CASH. One has to admit that there is truth behind the sentence. Stealing can not be planned or executed by less intelligent people or average people. One who does this has ambition, greed, intelligence, skill and courage. The only thing they miss however is morality. They cannot see things from the other person's eye. Or did they? When crime is in play, love, hate, betrayal and revenge cannot be avoided. There have been many cop and thief stories around and in CASH, the director of Gangster & Metro attempt to say one such high fly story of top thieves who attempt and succeed to an extend.
The story begins when Zayed Khan (playing Danny) meets Ayesha Takia in an aeroplane and they are the only passengers in the first class. Soon they become friendly and Zayed impress Isha to hear stories of people who chase a 200 ct diamond, which was found by a farmer in an Indian village, which was presented to the King and later shipped abroad. Later the diamond got into 3 pieces and one of the 3 diamonds is now in a museum in Cape Town, South Africa. Angad (Sunil Shetty) is a famous underworld don who fought a bitter battle and survive with other underworld people. A deal was struck and Angad is chasing the 3rd piece of the diamond where the dons already have 2 diamonds. Aditi (Diya Mirza) is the lover of Angad and she co-ordinate his activities as well. Aditi meet Karan (Ajay Devgon) another top criminal but he appear as a top writer. To execute the plan Karan hired 3 people Pooja (Esha Deol) who is famous always failing South African police in car chase. Danny (Zayed Khan) & Lucky (Ritesh Deshmukh). Danny & Lucky both love Puja but Karan mange to rope all three for the job even with their indifference. Incidently, Shania (Shamita Shetty), Karan's girl friend is an agent and is the mission supervisor too where she is planning movement of $4 Million belong to the treasury. Karan is planning to loot the $4 M as his last mission. All action take place at a time and what follows is the main story of CASH.
In CASH Anubhav Sinha experiment new possibilities which other directors didn't tried and succeed to an extent. He tried Cartoon animations to support the action scenes, chase scenes etc. and it is indeed a novel idea, but I would have loved the film more if it was told it otherwise. Still the experiment needs to be applauded. Until the characters are presented one by one with their background and skills, the film was running in a very slow pace. However, once the characters are set and back ground is fixed the action begins and from there onwards it took a brilliant U turn, like the one Pooja did to beat the policeman and then onwards the movie was well paced, well going and crisp like a hot samosa.
If somebody felt a smell of Doom, it is not incidental and I believe the movie is highly inspired by Dhoom story. A second part for Cash is possible and they finished the movie quite with a good style.
The Director succeeded in keeping the pace and thrill till the last frames and each character has given proper importance. The scripting sense of Anubhav is not in question and his ability to net different characters and stories together too not in doubt. The genius is present in this film too.
The director manages to get good performance from his crew as well. Ajay Devgan played the genius-criminal well. Dia Mirza looked gorgeous where she had only few scenes to act. Esha Deol played the action girl well. Ritesh & Zayed Khan's roles were well supported by the writer and they did their role quite nicely. Shamita was ok, as the intelligent officer, but she was little let down by the writer.
Songs were good to listen and fast numbers lead the procedure. Choreography was excellent where flesh is added as a colour when it comes to background(?). The music will be heard many a time now in club parties and all. Cash (the title track), Mind blowing, Naughty naughty are the 3 numbers which lead the show. Vishal – Shekhar duo can proud for their music, where choreography by Remo/Rajeev Goswamy well supported the movie and the songs.
Overall, the movie is a good one which can be recommended for all who love the thrill. Youngsters will enjoy the movie most. If you like Dhoom kind movies, I am sure you will like this movie as well. As I said earlier I thought the first hour of the movie was little slow paced, but from there on it is a totally gripping and well made film which can be recommended.
