Salute to the Captain

This is a sequel to the Captain America: the first avenger. Although I didn’t dislike the first movie, I found it a little boring. It had a detailed introduction plot which was stretched a little lengthy. It mainly portrayed the difficulties Captain America faced while adjusting with the modern world. There were not many action sequences. I am more into action and explosion kind of stuff so I was left a little disappointed.

The reason I love watching movies of Marvel Studios is because the movies are so well connected and there is never a gap. After watching all the movies from Marvel(Iron man 1, 2, 3; Thor 1, 2; Avengers, Captain America 1) I was expecting something great from this movie and I was not disappointed. To start off, portraying Captain America as a hero is not an easy task because he does not have any special powers like Hulk, Iron man, Thor etc.

The story is very good and is carried forward from where the Avengers movie left.  Captain America is assigned various missions, which he has to accomplish, without knowing the objective of the mission. This makes him suspect Nick Fury for carrying out missions with ulterior motives and creates a rift between the two.

The introduction scene of the villain ‘Winter Soldier’ is really awesome. It became one of my favourite scenes in the movie. The story proceeds with the death of Nick Fury where Captain America and Black widow unite to find the killer. As the story proceeds they unravel a lot of secrets and mysteries. It also lays emphasis on the political unrest going on in the organization that is SHEILD. The story moves smoothly and does not become boring even for a second

Talking about the performances, Chris Evans as Captain America looks splendid and performs some great action sequences. After being branded as a traitor, he has to fight alone, to find the mysteries going on inside the SHIELD. The scene in the elevator where he fights with 10 guys shows he’s not an ordinary superhero, even without the full tactical armour suit of Iron man or the brute strength of Hulk. The fight scenes between Captain America and winter soldier are the movies highlight. Scarlet Johansson as the Black Widow looks pretty and forms a formidable ally with Captain America. Black widow too forms an important part of the plot. There is a movie in the making based only on black widow.

Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury always gives a stellar performance again. He has a powerful presence in SHILELD where everyone has to obey him, whether they like it or not. The audience feel bad when they realized he is killed.

Sebastian Stan does what is required of him. Being a super soldier, he is strong and does well to stand against Captain America. But, I feel he’s missing that menacing trait which Loki had, in Avengers and Thor, which made him a better villain. Most part of the movie, he remains silent. He is like a killing machine, without any remorse and won’t have any second thoughts before killing any one. He only speaks a little towards the end when he starts having faint memories of his past friendship with Chris Rogers when they were in military together. The long history between the characters adds a thrilling twist to the movie. Their confrontation scenes are also good, and show the emotional side of Captain America.

This movie makes you forget the Avengers, which was made on a much larger scale. The CGI effects are amazing. Over all, it is well shot with beautiful landscapes. This movie, like all the previous Marvel movies have good one liner that gives a comic relief to the audience watching the movie. Marvel is well known for its unique way of storytelling and it does exactly that for Captain America. There was a cheer among the people in the theatre when they saw Nick Fury was back. The audience were actually cheering. This shows how much of an impact he had on the audience

In all, I would say the movie is a complete thriller. The political unrest in the SHIELD, with the top controlling authority joining hands with the wrong people is well executed. Marvel does well to introduce each character in the movie and provide required depth and screen time to each.

Captain America- the winter soldier has excelled in all departments and has left the audience wanting for more. The fast pace of the movie keep the audience glued to the screen. The people associated with the movies have worked hard and you can see their efforts. I would give it a 5/5. I am anxious to know how Marvel would connect this movie to Avengers- Age of Ultron, which is expected in 2015.
