Hi guys, this is my second review posted on MS for my first camera Canon SX10IS. After a lot of research on the types of camera available in the market as well as better understanding of my need to have a camera, I froze on Canon SX 10 IS.

My requirements were: High megapixel(not that I want a banner size photograph to be printed, but I dint want any pixelation on the pic), very good picture quality, Superzoom, hotshoe, flicking LCD pannel(I'm just 5'6" and often I realise that this feature is good for short people like me, specially when I couldn't click pics thru my mobile camera, during concert by IRON MAIDEN in B'lore. I couldn't manage to get a front seat) and most importantly full manual option(I just love playing with?.everything).

Competing products: Panasonic DMC FX28, Canon SX10IS, Olympus 570UZ and Nikon P80

Nikon P80: Lacks hotshoe, flicking LCD and definately zoom is not comparable. Price and picture quality is definately quite competitive.

Panasonic DMC FZ28: Everything comparable except, picture quality on telephoto, no hot shoe and flicking screen. Price is quite competitive. Not to forget good features

Olympus 570UZ: Accorcing to me this is the best bridge camera on earth as of now, if you are ready to shell out more. fully loaded in all aspects and the zoom adjustment ring(just like an SLR camera) is simply awesome.

Canon SX10IS: Fulfiling all my requirements it won my heart. No question on picture quality. The only thing which I felt was not good(probably was a problem with all the cameras available in the market) is the limited F stop. 2.8 to 8. It gives you a freedom to capture pics with just a reasonable depth. You know at times you have a situation where you want depth in the pic, you dont have too much of light and you dont wanna increase the ISO settings to grain you pic. also you are not carrying a external flash light. what would you do? Leaving all this Canon is still a choice for most of them.

These days I click on every damn thing that I see and see it thru a photographer's eyes. Isme shutter spped toda sa jyada chahiye. Usme light kam hai. yeh kuch jyada bright hai.bla bla bla

Happy clicking

AFTER 4700 clicks / almost 2 years

  • Although she is quite old and outdated compared to the new ones available, but its still my sweetheart.

  • I lost the camera hood and lens cap. This is a genuine problem with this camera. The lens cap is always loose and it does not even have a string / strap attached to it.

  • By now I have mastered almost all the features of the Camera and most of them are amazing.

  • An since I have crossed the stage of an amatuer, therefore features like manual focus and comparatively higher noise in low light areas, pinches me. You will keep rolling the jog dial to maually focus, while your subject might go away. I love the focus ring option available in Fujifilm HS10. In most occasions the flash is too harsh on the subject and hence I avoid it. the result is I change the ISO, exposure etc which adversely impacts the picture. Night photography is not the'great' in SX10IS. Note'great' is subjective. I was happy when I purchased it but now that I understand bitts and pieces of photography, I'm unhappy with its low light photography.

  • I have rarely felt the need to use full 20 x zoom, in these two years. Its definately effective. Moreover the higher the zoom the more you feel the need of a tripod. So superzooms like succesor SX30IS and Fujifilm HS10 do not make me jealous.

I have taken so many lovely picture with this camera and most of them were very much appreciated, that I do not feel to dump it and go for a DSLR.
