Its very frustrating that there were just 2 reviews and 0 comments for this great camera.

Well, you can find out the (MANY) features and settings of the camera any where on the web. Also the pros and cons can be found out from many places... So I am limiting myself here to explain 1 important shooting technique which can be used and give great results with Powershot A85 ( Could also be used with other in powershot series, I suppose).

Taming the auto focus : A typical way to shoot in A85 is to press the button half way, and let the camera adjust white balancing and focus on the object being shot and then click the button fully to finally capture the image. Typically the auto focus (The green box which appears on the LCD) focusses on the most brighted object nearest to the camera. This will sometimes miss your subject of the photograph. And your subject will appear out of focus in the final image. A technique to overcome this is to focus the camera (pressing the button half way) at another object in the vicinity which is at the same depth and aptly lighted. The camera will focus on the object (green box) and then move the camera to your subject and press the button fully. This technique is also helpful when you want to capture images with different white balancing, time of shutter, f-number etc. Suppose you want to shoot a bright picture in such a way that it should appear bright, if you shoot it with Auto mode the camera will adjust the shutter speed too fast so that you can see the picture clearly and it will not appear too bright. Of course you have Manual and Park mode to change the time of shutter, but sometimes setting all this things takes time, and your photographic moment may be lapsed. A technique to overcome this is to keep your camera in auto-mode, and focus on a dark subject (press the button halfway). This will adjust the camera with a slow shutter speed now you can move the camera to your brighted subject and press the button fully. These techniques require a little experience as you will not be sure how much depth/light will set the camera auto settings to what level. So if you have bookish knowledge you can easliy use the Manual mode, but if you want to setup your camera quickly to what you want, master these techniques.
