Bought Canon 40D over an year ago from Photo circle(Chickpet, Bangalore) along with Canon 18-55mm-IS lens for Rs 45K. Also added a 55-250mm IS lens for Rs 12K.
It is a 10Mpixel with ISO sensitivity up to 3200 ISO(usable up to 1600 ISO without much noise). There is an extra dial at the back which helps to set aperture etc in manual mode(this is missing in 450D). The LCD display on the topside is illuminated and quite useful.
The viewfinder however looks tunnel vision when compared to a normal fullframe/35mm film SLR camera(like EOS 5).
The picture quality(in terms of noise and color) is good. Resolution too is excellent. At 100% zoom, there is no fuzziness if used with a sharp lens.
The performance with 55-250mm lens is quite good once you get good focus.
I saw that focusing is quite inaccurate at times, especially with this long lens. The focus is quite fast though. But you will find many shots slightly out of focus. Had to use manual focus at times.
Has a good set of custom functions and 3 settings can be saved. Battery life is OK(lasts 2 days of shooting). However standby battery life is not that great(still goes for about 1-2 months. I have seen Li-ion batteries lasting over an year in standby for other cameras.
In built flash is weak and does not cover a decent range(3mts, I guess).
Has mirror lock up feature which is useful while taking long shots on a tripod(avoids shake).
RAW mode is quite good, but takes up about 12MB of file size.
The software which comes with the camera allows you to correct lens distortion and chromatic aberration. The corrected pictures from my kit lens(18-55mm) looks quite.
You can get a Canon EDGE membership(if you buy the body with a bill/guarantee)
They would send a camera bag and a book etc as gift, as well extend warranty for 1 more year.
Overall a good camera, but it still lacks the feel of an old film SLR, especially when it comes to focus accuracy and view finder size.
