The Good:

1.18-55mm IS Lens is amazing and way better than Kit lens.

2.Compact and medium weight.

3.Fast and responsive.

4.Intelligently designed with shooting-friendly layout.

5.Excellent image quality.

6.Auto Sensor Cleaning.

7.Very Good Battery Life.

8.Very nice grip.

The bad:

1.No Live view in the camera, so you have to always use the view finder.

2.There is No spot metering.

3.No Second status LCD.

4.Dont buy 18-55mm Kit Lens. Kit Lens is poor and slow.

5.Canon India Customer support sucks.

The bottom line:

The Canon EOS 400D remains a very good first dSLR.

Details:

Make the world your

playground with the EOS 400D. 10.1 Megapixels of superior CMOS

resolution and Canon's Integrated Cleaning System deliver the EOS

hallmark of crisp, clean images, shot after shot.

Canon has announced the

latest evolution in their affordable digital SLR series, the ten

megapixel EOS 400D / Digital Rebel XTi. Headline new features /

specifications include the ten megapixel CMOS sensor (up to ISO

1600), a new dust reduction system, nine area auto focus, Picture

Styles, a large 2.5" LCD monitor which now also provides shooting

information (the second control panel LCD is gone) and better

continuous shooting buffering.

Almost exactly three

years since Canon changed the digital SLR market forever they

announced the third generation of their affordable entry level

series, the EOS 400D (Digital Rebel XTi). This new camera follows

the design of the EOS 350D, being very compact and relatively

lightweight but not compromising on manual controls or in-use

performance. The headline changes are another two megapixel step up

(to ten megapixels), the nine-point AF sensor from the EOS 30D, a

new dust removal system which includes anti-static surface coatings,

low-pass filter vibration and software based dust removal pattern

removal. Less important but just as noticeable are the removal of

the status LCD, replaced instead by a camera settings screen on the

now larger 2.5" LCD monitor and the eye proximity sensor just below

the viewfinder to turn this off when composing your shot.

*Canon 18-55mm IS Lens

*The EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS is a

lightweight general-purpose zoom lens that is ideal for handheld

photography in a wide range of lighting conditions. Offering high

optical quality, the lens has an 11 element, 9 group construction,

including one spherical element for crisp corner-to-corner detail.

The lens maintains a closest focusing distance of just 25cm

throughout the zoom range, giving photographs the flexibility to

frame up close when needed.

Canon’s latest optical **Image

Stabilizer (IS)** technology provides up to 4-stop compensation for

image blur caused by camera shake and slow shutter speeds.

Photographers normally shooting handheld at 1/250 sec can switch on

IS to obtain a similarly steady and blur-free result with a shutter

speed of just 1/15 second. The inclusion of automatic panning

detection makes it easier for photographers to track wildlife and

other moving subjects. To ensure consistently accurate results at

all zoom positions, the IS system within each lens has been

optimised for that lens’ specific focal length range. Since the IS

system is based within the lens, the results are visible through the

viewfinder when framing the image.

*Appealing background blur

*Both lenses also incorporate a circular aperture. This helps create

an even background blur when depth of field is minimised, giving

photographers more creative options for portraiture and similar

types of photography.

*Super Spectra coatings

*Both models employ Canon’s patented Super Spectra coatings to

suppress flare and ghosting – more prone to occur with digital

cameras due to reflection off the image sensor. By increasing light

absorption, coatings reduce reflections off lens element surfaces to

deliver crisp, undistorted images with natural colour balance.

*E-TTL II flash integration

*The lenses transmit distance information to the E-TTL II flash

system of all current model digital EOS cameras, improving flash

exposure metering when used in conjunction with Canon’s range of EX

Speedlite flash units.

Now something about the Canon Customer Care

I recently bought Canon 400D recently with 18-55mm IS Lens with Canon edge program.

1. I ordered the camera on NOv24th and got it on 7th Dec after 13 days, with lot of struggle.

When I placed the order for the camera, Canon sales Manager told me I will get it in 2 days and than after 2 days I called him up to know that I will get the camera today and tomorrow and it went on till I finally received the camera after 13 days. I was ready to wait also if someone could tell me I will get it on so so date and time but Canon kept lie to me that I will get it today and tomorrow and so on.

2. After I got the Camera I tried to register the camera for warranty on canon website and I was shocked when canon called me and told me that I bought camera without bill or I didn't buy it in India. So to prove that I bought it from India I had to fax and e-mail them bill and warranty card. It took them 10 days to resolve this issue. Canon is supposed to keep the record of the products that they sell in India but I had to prove them that I bought it from India. On the camera box it was clearly written that it has been imported in India by Canon India and MRP.

3. Its been more than 2 Weeks now and I will still waiting for Canon edge gifts to reach me.

I have send them over a dozen mails.

I don't even remember how many times I called them up.

The canon Phone helpline is useless. They have no information. whenever I call them up they tell me to call someone else.

Its the worst ever service I received after spending 40K. Still I am waiting for the Canon edge gifts to reach me. I don't even know when I will get them.
