I'll try to keep this review short (look to this review - https://mouthshut.com/review/Canon_EOS_1000D-184933-1.html for more details). I was looking for entry level SLR and the choice was between Canon's and Nikon's. Both are reputed companies in the DSLR market. I chose Canon largely because of the EOS system which had a lot of cheap to expensive, all high quality lenses. The canon product was also cheaper by several thousands.
All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase. The camera body is excellent, the lens can be better, but considering I would be buying another in that focal range anyway, having a cheap kit lens is probably a good thing.
