I am using this lens from the day I bought canon 100D. and I have to say its super amazing and i simply can't live without this lens if there is no zoom or kit lens with me it will be more than Ok but 50mm have to be there all the time.

It is perfect because of 2 reason it has sufficient zoom yet wide. which act as both wide angle shot and zoom shot to an extent. and it is great for portraits too. and I normally take portraits.

Another advantage is it can go as high as f/1.8 which is really great for shallower depth of field and bokeh effect and great lower light . which kit lens can never achieve and at very cheap price. Its price is truly fantastic and affordable around 7.5k. You get best lens for portrait compare to 55-250 zoom lens which is also cheaper but aperture is small f/5.6 at 250mm which is not good for low light . you have to invest alot if you want lowlight zoom lens.

But hey there is one flaw with Canon  EF 50mm prime lens which I am facing, I am using canon 100D and it has APS C sensor where as EF 50mm is best optimized for full frame sensor. and hence at fast aperture if I shoot from optical viewfinder image often come out bit less sharp. I have to switch live view to get best possible sharp result. but listen if you can go to service center they can do autofocus calibration with your camera then you won't face this issue.

another downside of EF 50mm f/1.8 II is it doesnot have STM. and hence in video recording you will see noise of Auto Focus which is quite annoying and you will hear in video playback.

So my recommendation is if you want to buy or I must say every canon dslr must have this lens but please buy Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM version. it is smaller lighter and much better. and available at around same price. and has better build quality too.
