Peace, Today or Tomorrow?

I was scouring the TV channels yesterday. They all show and say the same thing. A night of heavy bombardment with tons of missiles falling on the buildings in Baghdad. It is said to be ''precise'' attacks, but one wonder what sort of precision would possibly cover each and every building in a country. And the mornings are filled with various kinds of ''chosen'' analysts who beem about how they are shocking the Iraqis to the extent of surrender. The same thing again and again. All we get is a birds eye view of what is happening in the country.

I kept on changing channels until something struck my eyes. It was not one of my usual channels, because I dont understand the language they speak. But what I saw today, didnt need any explanation. The screaming sights went directly into my nerves. Huge mass of rubbles, ironically resembling the Ground Zero of WTC. The most ordinary Iraqi people scouring the bodies that lay there, trying to determine who they were and what could be done. People bringing in torn sheets, wrapping the bodies in them and taking them away. people searching for their loved ones and friends. Toddlers with both legs amputed and head heavily bandaged, lying in a hospital. Women crying out for their kids and men. Pregnant women flooding the hospitals, asking for C Section delivery of their 7 months old foetus for they are worried about having to deliver on the roads. And more.....

You may not see these images in CNN, BBC or any other western channels. I just happened to be in a country where they relay the Arabic channel Al Jazeera TV. And I am thankful for bringing the truth infront of me. I switched channels and I hear an anchor asking an Arab if their local televisions werent responsible for the mass anti-war demos there and asks him if they are showing the US-UK point of view or not. And we are doing all these for freedom and democracy.

How long will the human race continue to suffer in this endless quest of power and money. How many innocents should die before the new millinaire is created. What right do we have in another's country and their natural resources. If we didnt save them, do we have the right to punish them.

My 4 year old is asking me what happened to that amputed kid and why they are having fireworks all night long. I smile at her trying to hide my tears. I dont want to be true to her (as I always try to be) and tell her that it is a war. Not until she is ready to differentiate it from the hollywood thrillers, this one with commercials of bombers and warships inbetween. I dont want her to think that this is all nothing but an adrenaline-pumping event. I just dont want it to be the first impressions she get on the word ''war''. I cant help but wonder about the effects all these have on the next generation in US and UK where parents proudly watch their country succeed in aggression. And they complain about kids shooting in school. Our generation is done with, there isnt nothing that seems to save us from this. Cant we atleast save our next generation?

As usual comments are always welcome!!
