Originality:

Californication has been a sensational release from this talented band, who couldn’t prove there identity well on there previous albums including Blood, Sugar, Sex Magic. I am not really aware of what this title means, but do know what californications is all about.

I will list some my favorite tracks on the CD and some no so well but can be others favorite. I didn’t like only 2-3 songs on the CD, which are there typical old style rap-rock songs. They are Get On Top, Emit Remmus and Around the World. Well many hardcore fans wouldn’t agree with me on this one. In fact reason for there criticism is the softened pop like sound of current RHCP. In fact they tried to wipe out this misunderstanding on current album, whose single By The Way has been release a month or two back. Listen to the bass on that one it’s awesome.

Around the World

I don’t like this song because its too long and gets boring after a while. The bass notes are clear and well heard on this one.

Parallel Universe

This has got to be one of my favorite tracks on the album for its crunchy guitar solo. I personally love this song. John Frusciante, the lead guitarist newly reunited with the band, plays a cool, noisy opening riff. I had an opportunity to listen to the concert of the band. Let me tell you they are a horrible bunch of performers when it come to live shows. Anthony’s voice is terrible. He has a lot of trouble controlling his voice. Guitar and Bass are pretty well played. But there mixing, lineup somehow doesn’t match and they sound very ordinary and I’m sure any living room performer or party performer would do better than them. I think they need a DJ badly to improve there sound on main stage.

Scar Tissue

This is a great sound with a great guitar solo I have ever heard. Lyrics are amazing and whole setting is just beautiful. I have listened to this song so many time that I have lost the count. The band had got some positive reviews from critics for compositions like this one.

Otherside

This was the second single released by the band. It was sort of overplayed on radio, tv and every possible medium I guess. In the lyrics part Anthony Kiedis is referring to the world of drug addiction. The music video is very cool and you can not relate it with the implied meaning by any means.

Californication

This song and most recent single summarized the whole concept or outline of the album. It is not a concept album by any means and deals most directly with the world slowly becoming more and more influenced by California and Hollywood. The video of the sond is animated and is great. It tells a lot on the implied meaning. I nice soft pop-rock song.

Easily

This is a typical song of RHCP. It sounds a lot repetitive in chorus and riffs. I don’t hate this song but don’t love it either. I would give it a 2.5 out of 5. Neutral that is.

Porcelain

You know what lullabies are for, right to put you (babies I mean) to sleep. I think the band has over softened there sound and looses the track here itself. This is a turning point for the band. With tracks like this they will get a wider audience but what about the old trustworthy fan base?

Road Trippin'

The album ends with a soft acoustic song. This song is about being on the road with your favorite people. I like to play this song on my guitar a lot. The chorus is great on this one.

I have not expanded on each and every track but hope that it will be useful in making you a decision on buying. Overall it’s a great rare buy. I give 4 out of 5 for the album for its lyrical structure and music.
