Theres a new Pizzeria at Bandra Kurla complex. Since there was a lot of publicity about the Opening of California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) I decided to pay a visit.
It's location is really nice and proximity to home I felt was an advantage.... but uuuuffffff.... the Pizza I dreamt about remained in my dreams.
We got there at about 9p.m. When I went in to ask , I was told that the waiting time was 45 mins. The kids were hungry but well since we had decided that we would check out the food here, we waited patiently.
Finally my name was called at 10pm. We were seated and we gave our order for the drinks. The drinks were refreshing enough. Obviously, cause we were totally parched waiting outside for an hour.
We got down to selecting from the menu. We ordered a Veg Grilled Sandwich, Garlic bread, Spaghetti bolognese and a BLT pizza. The Spaghetti was served quick enough. They had gone OTT with the tomatoes. The tomato completely over powered every other ingredient in this dish.
Then came the garlic bread. It was tough. Not enough garlic to categorize it as Garlic bread.
Then came the Grilled Sandwich. Here too the bread was tough. I don't know if it was even grilled properly cos it wasn't even hot! The knife too wasn't sharp enough to cut through the bread. So one can imagine how tough it was.
Finally the much awaited pizza was brought out. I had asked for a BLT. All I saw was the T... what about the B and the L. I called the waiter and asked him if this was definitely the BLT pizza. He called another guy... who said that it didn't look like a BLT pizza so he took it and got the BLT pizza. It was absolutely cold. By this time I was so tired that I didn't even complain.
For the food and the drinks the bill came to Rs2600 including the taxes and the tip. I did not feel it was worth that kind of money.
After waiting for an hour the least they could have done was provided us with water as soon as we were seated (which is normally done in any indian restaurant).
I don't think I will frequent this place. In fact I was amazed when a guy dropped in at 11pm when we were leaving, and insisted that since he was their frequent customer, they should serve him. Poor Guy if he has to frequent such a place for his food when there are n number of good restaurants in Mumbai.
The food was tasteless. Now you can say that it's not for the Indian palate. I disagree. Theres a difference between bland food and tasteless food. This was tasteless. Sorry to say. I hope they improve on their product.
As they are new, they are getting the first time customers.... but they need to watch out, cos in Mumbai there isn't a dirth of restaurants and if you aren't good...it's shut down time.
If given a choice I would ask them to refund my money. Maybe not the drinks money but definitely what I spent on the garlic bread , sandwich and the pizza.
