I approach this with a slightly confused mind. While I work withing sniffing distance from the place I must confess that I am not a regular there. And here are the reasons: Continental cuisine. Once again the "tourist palatte" raises its ugly head. The main dishes can be bland. Unless you specifically ask for it to be made suited to your typical Indian tastebuds. Then too I've found that they go heavy on the oil.
Ambience: Non-ac and no hard stuff. Beers yes. Breezers yes. Starters and dinner, yes. Rum, Whisky etc? Resounding no. Everytine I walk outta the office I see foreigners chatting over a beer and lazily munching over a dish. A few indians of course are there. But not too many. The TV in the corners keep them entertained if the conversation isn't. And also during crucial cricket matches, passers by throng the outside and block the road.
I've been told that it's a landmark. Or rather, it once was. But across the road is a bigger landmark: City Kitchen. But then that's another story.
Universal is good for an afternoon beer. A few bites. And then get the hell outta Dodge!
