Staff just talk to each other if you order anything it will take ages to come and they don't mind if customer will cancel the order and leave as they are busy talking with other staff . Worst place to go with your family .

Place to sit for hours without ordering.

I have recently noticed an increasing amount of reverse snobbery when it comes to coffee. Sure everyone likes Coffee Day, it's cheap man, that's all that counts.and it's just so much fun to do a bit of barista-bashing, purely because our wallets prevent us from actually sitting there.

But if we're actually talking the quality of coffee, then the truth is Barista coffee is a whole lot better. I've noticed a couple of people mentioning the Bandra Bandstand branches of Barista and Coffee Day.now there is a prime example of contrast.

Everyone likes to sit at Coffee Day and peek over at Barista, scoffing at the show-offs who are only wasting their money.and then the next set of show-offs who come and sit down.and then the next.and then next.and then your coffee-day coffee arrives. folks, that's how it is.you sit and you wait for your coffee.and then you wait.and you watch as each set of happy barista-goers come and go and there you are, still waiting for that cheapest-coffee-on-the-menu.

It's not even as if it's a pleasant wait.Coffee Day has the misfortune of having one of those touch-screen type juke box thingys where you can'choose your music', and then end up spending the rest of your time(which you are supposed to have alot of anyway if you're sitting in Coffee Day) listening to everyone else's, usually along the lines of some sop by Chicago which your parents listened to when they were like, 10, and even THEY grew out of it.

Worse than that is the fact that the time it takes for your chosen song to grace your ears is even longer than the appearance of your coffee! And scarier still is that little sign on it for people who actually want to play a song.you have to pay 5 rupees for some obscure code number at the counter. ooooh, the counnnnterrrr.you know, the one you have to WAIT at to place your order.then the one you have to WAIT at to get your coffee, the one you have to wait at to receive your change and now you want to WAIT to pay for a song that you're never going to hear? that takes courage.

Ofcourse while you wait there's always the viewing pleasure of the fat-guy in the back who grinds away at your coffee a la sweat-patches-under-the-arms, as his skinny counter part in the front, after much stammering and stuttering and misinterpreting of your order then chooses to ignore your presence because he can longer cope. and when things get really bad, they just pull the plug on the mains as an excuse and scuttle round the back to hide until a couple of people have left.

But look on the bright side, atleast it stops the music.

Ok, so there are a lot of people and alot of coffees to be served.that's understandable.until one day when you're rich enough to amble into Barista and almost go into cardiac arrest to discover one single small smiling man calmly moving around behind the counter fixing everyone's coffee with ease and a warm smile( even before you've decided to buy a coffee). A welcome change from the smile you see on the faces of the Coffee Day staff which can usually be sighted once you've left.

Seriously it's shocking.one man handling a whole cafe( and it's not even as if Barista is empty) while some 6 men are flapping behind the Coffee Day counter hyperventilating.

Then ofcourse there's the fact that Coffee Day shuts its doors in your face by like, 11pm just when you need that late night coffee.

Coffee Day has also invented the Take-Away-Coffee for an even more discounted price.yay.but only because you no longer have to pay for sitting in its delightful ambience(i.e. glamorized waiting room). So basically if you get a take-away coffee in the blistering heat and the cafe is empty, and you suddenly realise that maybe you DO want to sit there after all and take in the sweet buzzing sounds of the mosquitios facing a grizzly death in the electric bug killer suspended on a corner wall, you can't. because it takes less than 2 seconds( a whole lot less than the time it takes to make your coffee) for half the staff to hysterically shoo you away like some dung-fly.

Then there's the very coffee itself. To be honest, Coffee-Day coffee isn't bad.especially for its price. I wouldn't go so far as to say the coffees in both places are exactly the same because they are not. But Barista coffee does have the advantage of extra flavour and not being so heavy on the stomach as coffee day tends to be.

Lastly there's the overall feel and look of both cafes. maybe it doesn't matter to what the cafe looks like as long as the coffee is good, but it is glaringly obvious that Barista has the upper hand in this respect. The colour scheme, the lighting, the general graphics and packaging, the way the coffee is served, in what its served and even how its taken away is far more aesthetically pleasing than the multi-coloured tube-lit waiting room next door. Your palate or your wallet. and then there's the wait.
