To start with I promise not to flash too many financial terms and other gibberish( for the pure reason that I know none). My interest in finance evolved just 2 years back, thanks to the job shift I made from a well known software company in Chennai to a much lesser known software company in Trivandrum called Net Asset Management alias EnvestNet Asset Management recently thro a meger.
If weren't for this switch I would have been stuck in my little world of software(coding), software(coding) and software(coding). The company was software company providing a beautiful product for asset management company. But thats another story hmmm I could turn that into another review :).
So to cut a long story short in my quest for financial knowledge, thro print and media I stumbled on CNBC-TV18. Words can not be expressed to show my appreciation for the channel. In a time when scrap channels are mushrooming up on a daily basis with basically no revenue model and only the time tested films/songs/serials.
This is a channel which has choosen to be different. It takes courage to be different and with the risks comes the returns. As indias only business channel( the only 1 to see the oppurtunity) CNBC is in a class of its own.
Its not easy setting up a business channel,for most channels its all about ''finding the beautiful dumb blonde with the artificial smile'' ( pls excuse the phrase). CNBC with its intricate net of anchors,analysts and reports have shown what a dream channel is all about. From my limited knowledge Raghav Bahl runs the show down at CNBC. Considering that he was 1 of the nominees for the ernst and young best entrepreneur award should tell you a lot.
The content is well thought of and the anchors are not far behind. Raghav Bahl projects out to be that dare devil ''I dare you'' kind of host. Ofcourse the most super duper creme de la creme are reserved for him. Udayan Mukherjee and Ashu Dutt are next in the limelight. For these guys their works seems to be their temple, they are truely dedicated to their work, come rain or shine they are always analysing the markets at the opening bell ( I have wondered if doing the same thing day in and day out would change their enthusiasm at least on 1 of those days but till date I havent seen a hint of it yet). It would be worth mentioning that Ashu has a endless list of degrees Abroad and at home and was he a Co-CEO of SABTV ?? Anyway these guys have class and charisma.
Next to follow is Mini Menon and Shereen Bhan, talk about beauty and brains. Shereen has that million dollar smile ( I wonder if it was fixed -- just kidding). All said and done, this channel relates to the youth of today, the channel is constantly improvising feeling the pulse of its viewers. Right now its turning into a jack of all trades from comedy talk shows like Jay Leno, health shows like ''good life'' , name it the channel has it. I dont see in very far future a channel toppling CNBC, its actually surprising, inspite of a alround monopoly CNBC has decided to give its all. Thats really appreciable.
All that the other channels can do is to ape CNBC eg NDTV with a very uninteresting and un charismatic xyz who 1) isnt audible 2)unimmpressive 3)keeps reporting what we already know. My closing line is ,if u are worried/interested/hopeless about anything from finance, stocks,insurance, retirement,loans etc Tune in to CNBC and let the channel work its magic.
